Prologue

Justice

The van is hot as hell. I’m watching the house across the street because I know he’s in there. The fucking dick!

I know for a fact he hasn’t left because I’ve been sitting here all fucking day. It’s finally dark, and any time now the little shit is going to leave the house. Then he’s mine.

Cowboy’s with me, but he’s been quiet the whole time. He’s still hurting over losing Cassie and I can’t blame him, it’s only been a few months. Satan may be dead, but it doesn’t stop the guilt we all feel that we weren’t quick enough to save her, nor smart enough to work out what was going on under our own roof.

I straighten up in my seat as I see the hallway light go out. I nudge Cowboy awake, motioning towards the house. It’s time.

I clench my fists as I watch Ted walk over to his car. The slimy piece of shit has been leading my sister on, no fucking way am I letting him off with that shit! My sister means everything to me. Ted is unlocking his car door, when my arm goes around his throat. My approach as always is silent. Deadly.

“What? Who? You can’t do this to me.” He starts to protest, struggling in my arms.

“Shut the fuck up. You’re going to walk over to that van, quiet as a mouse or I’ll start carving pieces of you off as we walk. Choice is yours.” I whisper the words harshly in his ear. As soon as he hears my voice he knows who I am. What I am. It’s enough to cause him to freeze in terror. Cowboy groans in disgust. I tense as I realize what Ted’s done. Shit! The bloody coward’s gone and wet himself. Not only is he a dick, he’s a fucking coward too.

“Please don’t kill me.” He whimpers. Yep. He’s a fucking pussy all right.

If I were him, I’d put up a fight. Stand my ground and be a man! Not whimper and beg. Men like him make me sick.

“I’m not going to kill you Ted.” I reassure him. Although it is really fucking tempting. “That would be far too quick and painless.” Ted whimpers some more so I tighten my hold around his neck. God I’d love to snap it! “I told you to be fucking quiet.” I command.

I practically have to drag Ted the few yards from his driveway to the van. Being careful not to let his piss stained trousers touch me. Cowboy’s ready and waiting for me, the sliding door open. He reaches into his back pocket, a move that causes Ted to start whimpering again. What a fucking wimp. What the fuck did my sister see in him? I’ll never understand it.

Cowboy withdraws some black cable ties from his pocket and uses them to secure Ted’s wrists behind him. He moves to his ankles, doing the same.

“For fuck’s sake Ted.” Cowboy complains. “You a little momma’s boy? You’ve gone and pissed yourself like one.” There’s disgust in Cowboy’s voice.

He pushes Ted face first into the back of the van. Ted is hampered by the ties but manages to crawl a little further in, allowing me to slide the door shut. Not that I’d care if I trapped anything anyway! Cowboy jumps in the passenger seat next to me and I start the van. Moving slowly at first with the headlights off, until I hit the end of the street. The less any busybody neighbors see around here the better.

I only drive for a few minutes before I hit the trail road I’m looking for. This abandoned shack is perfect for what I have planned for this evening. It’s far enough from the town that no one will hear Ted scream. And I intend to make him scream, a lot.

Cowboy and I came here earlier to set up. Everything we need is inside. Cowboy drags Ted from the rear of the van none too carefully. Because of the ties on his ankles he can’t walk. Thanks to wetting himself Cowboy refuses to throw him over his shoulder and carry him. Instead, he grabs him by the wrist ties and drags him along the rough dirt path. That must hurt, but to be fair, considering what I have planned for him, that’s nothing.

Ted’s eyes go wide when we enter the shack and he sees the chain hanging over the solid wooden beam. Cowboy quickly secures him to it as I lean against the wall, listening to Ted’s whimpering. It’s really getting on my fucking nerves. Cowboy moves out of the way as soon as he’s done and I grin. Ted’s hanging by his arms, his feet not quite able to touch the floor and take any of the weight.

I slowly walk up to him. When I’m standing so close that we’re practically nose to nose Ted’s breathing quickens. I’m taller than he is. It’s just something else in the long list of things I don’t like about him.

I see the look of absolute fear in his eyes and it gets me hard. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not fucking gay but hurting people that I hate, that deserve it, gets me worked up and Ted really deserves it for what he has done to my sister! My reputation precedes me. Ted may think he knows what’s coming tonight. Trust me, he hasn’t a clue. What he imagines and what I have planned are poles apart.

“You’re not going to die tonight Ted.” There’s a spark of hope in his eyes. A little hint of relief and I can’t allow that. “You’re going to wish you were dead though. So much so, that you will beg me to kill you."

Excerpt

Maddox

I drive home in comfortable silence. I don’t think I’ve ever been content with comfortable silence with a woman before which is just another reminder of how Avery is different from everyone else. She doesn’t feel the need to talk all the time for the sake of talking.

As we start to approach the city limits of Rivers Edge, I start to wonder what I should do next. If this was any other girl, I’d drive back to her house with no hesitation whatsoever and take her inside. But this is Avery, and like I said, she’s different.

So, I thought maybe we’d stop by my house for a bit if that’s okay with you. This way, someone like Jake doesn’t see my truck parked in your drive and make trouble.” Even to my own ears, I sounded a little nervous as I said it. What the hell? It’s not like it’s my first time taking a girl home. Then it hits me. It is the first time I’m taking a girl home; to my house. I always go to their place. But the thought of Avery in my house, my bed, just feels right.

That sounds good,” she says with another shy smile. I love that smile; it’s filled with happiness and innocence. I turn off Main Street and head down Lincoln towards my house. When I reach my house, I pull into the drive and kill the engine. I hop out and walk around to her door. When I open it, she seems slightly hesitant, maybe even nervous.

I can take you home if you want.”

No,” she quickly throws out there. “I want to be here…with you.” There’s that damn smile again. I extend my hand to her and help her down from the truck and head inside.

When we step inside the dark recesses of my living room, I start to walk towards the lamp but she catches me by the arm, stopping me. I turn to look at her. The only light in the room is what moonlight is filtering through the window. Standing there in my darkened living room, light glowing off her blond hair, she looks stunning. She extends her hand up to cradle my cheek, her other hand runs up my abdomen from my stomach to rest on my chest. I step closer to her, looking deep into her eyes. She must have realized she was holding her breath because she lets out a big breath which comes out a little shaky. I look deep into her crystal blue eyes, and that’s when I see it. Lust. Desire. Trust.

My resolve shatters like a glass vase with that one look as I push her back against my front door. Our lips are urging each other on as our desire for each other completely takes over. She runs her tongue down my neck, and I almost come completely undone in my pants like a teenage boy by that one simple move. I cradle her ass in my hands and lift her up. She threads her legs around my waist, her hands diving into my hair. I lean against her, pushing her back into the door, and she moans. It’s the sexiest fucking sound I’ve ever heard and all I can think about is being deep inside her, making her moan over and over and over again.

I press hot kisses along her chin, down her delectable neck and lick the spot where her pulse is rapidly beating. “Tell me to stop, Avery. Tell me to stop right now and I will. But if you say nothing, I’m taking you back to my room and burying myself deep inside you. I’m going to make you come and scream my name. All. Night. Long. Tell me you want this as much as I do.”

I want this,” she whispers without hesitation and that’s all I need to hear.

Top Ten Reasons Romantic Suspense is the Best Genre to Read and to Write

#10 It’s two genres in one, because romantic suspense readers require more complexity to their stories.

#9 Most of the heroes that get shot are healed within twenty pages.

#8Evil can lurk inside everyone, including the heroine.

#7 - Readers know the difference between a gun clip and a magazine and expect the writer to know this as well.

#6 - There’s no time for a sagging story middle when someone is chasing the hero and heroine.

#5 - Shoot them, punch them, stab them. It doesn't matter, because the hero and heroine always survive.

#4 - The villain is revealed in the first third of the book so you can worry more about how he’ll die than who he is.

#3 - There’s no room for romantic misunderstandings, the conflict is real and trying to kill you.

#2 - Characters who are “too stupid to live” die, leaving kick ass heroines and the hunky guys that stay with them.

...and the Number One Reason Romantic Suspense is the Best Genre to Read and to Write:
#1 - Sex in the middle of a gun battle: hot, fast, dangerous.

Code Red
by Veronica Forand
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Release Date: August 22, 2014

Jessica Wonder, a bank teller living in a remote area of Canada, fell in love with the wrong man and spirals into a month of poor choices to crush out the pain engulfing her heart.

Kieran Brody is in Canada to coordinate the swap of a Russian spy for a CIA officer. This is his last assignment. After years in the CIA, he craves a quieter life.

The assignment implodes when the CIA officer he’s in charge of bringing home dies. His Russian counterparts panic and seize Kieran and Jessica, who he nicknames Red for her crimson hair. Kieran sees through Red’s phony bravado and tries to protect her from the hell they've been thrust into. In the process, the fiery beauty embeds herself into his heart.

The half-filled parking lot at the pub on a Saturday night meant fewer free drinks and more time alone. Damn.

Jess sauntered up to the nearly empty bar. High heels tapping the wood floor and skintight jeans that showed every one of her curves announced her availability. “Two whiskey shots, Adam.”

The handsomest man in the place replied to her order with narrowed dark brown eyes and a frown. “Not tonight, Jess.”

“I’m a paying customer. I want my drinks.”

“You’re in pain. I understand, but drinking yourself into oblivion every weekend isn’t gonna fix a broken heart.”

“If I was a man, you’d offer me a whiskey on the house and point me in the direction of the easiest woman in the place.” Jess leaned over the bar and provided Adam with the most menacing look she had. She looked pretty darn mean if the mirror behind him was accurate, but he just smiled.

“Most everyone’s watching the fireworks in North Bay, so your chance at scoring a few drinks is limited, unless you’ve lowered your standards to include Jimmy, Joe, and Old Len over there.” He pointed to the three old men in the corner sipping their usual ginger ale tinged with a teaspoon of rum for flavor.

“They’re not the only men in this place.” Switching her expression from badass to seductress by the lift of her eyebrows, she purred. “Too bad I couldn't convince you to focus on someone other than your wife.”

He poured two shots and slid them in front of her. “No thanks. The thought of Lily pointing a gun at my balls keeps me in line.”

He had a point. His wife would kill him if he ever cheated on her. Not that he ever would. Lily was tall, blonde, and built like a World War II pinup girl. The kind of woman a man wanted around.

Jess picked up one of the shots and tossed it down her throat. The burn trailed past a heart that had long since gone cold. She’d need the second shot to increase her confidence.

A little company for the next few hours combined with the alcohol would help erase memories of the future denied her and allow her to crawl back to the apartment she’d lived in for ten long years to wait for her new life to begin. Until she could finish her teaching degree and find a job somewhere else, she’d have to be content with hovering in place. It felt like she’d been hovering her whole life. The men she met at the bar helped her escape lonely nights and provided her enough free alcohol to anesthetize her heartbreak.

Men bought drinks for women who paid enough attention to them. And Jess knew exactly how much attention to provide. She played a mean game of pool, could debate hockey stats with any man in a fifty-town radius, and allowed a certain leniency on the dance floor. She didn't offer anything else, and the men rarely complained. No expectations, no heartbreak.

A few men propositioned her for more intimate things, but never for a real date. Jess wasn't the marrying type. Robert—may he not rest in peace—had made sure to brand that into her soul through his actions and inactions.

She walked over to the jukebox and stared at the two hundred songs available. Nothing matched her current mood. Part of her wanted to become drunk and lost in a stranger’s arms, but another part of her wanted to go home. She punched in Nazareth’s “Hair of the Dog.” Several of the customers moaned as the song blasted across the room. She didn't care. The music would help block out the jerk’s memory.

She returned to the bar. A third shot sat next to the two she’d purchased. Although a sliver of her conscience begged her to ignore it, the other darker part took up the challenge.

“For me?” she called out to Adam.

“From one of your fans.”

The pub wasn't full, but several of the booths had men sitting in them. She discounted any table with a woman. Men were oblivious at times but generally not suicidal. Two men in dark business suits sat in a booth near the back of the restaurant. One was tall, dark, and gorgeous, and the other was older and shorter with thinning blond hair. They both looked over at her. Bingo. Maybe the good-looking one would like some company for a few hours.

Downing the second shot with a false bravado, she strutted toward the men’s table holding the third.

“Careful, Jess,” Adam warned.

She ignored him.

The older of the two assessed her approach with ice blue eyes. He grinned as she came closer.

The younger, more attractive guy didn't appear too young, maybe late thirties or early forties. He narrowed his eyes and appeared as though he was trying to deflect her arrival with a laser beam glare.

“Hi, guys,” she said, directing her voice and her gaze to the friendlier of the two. “Thanks for the drink.”

The balding blond smiled, but Mr. Grumpy shook his head. “You have the wrong table, sweetheart. Why don’t you try your luck elsewhere?”

A quick assessment of the rest of the tables revealed her mistake. The drink was from Carter Jackson. He tried to wave her over, but her stomach knotted as she recalled her night with him. His preoccupation with the color of her panties and whether he could fit into her shoes creeped her out. No, she wasn't that desperate. Better to take a chance with the new guys in town.

The blond moved his walking cane over so she could slide in next to him.

She snuggled in close, but spoke to Mr. Grumpy. “Your friend likes my company.” Too bad the cute guy wasn’t interested. His friend leaned into her and caressed her shoulder, pushier than the usual guys she hung out with. She almost shoved him away and returned to the bar, but something in the cute one’s assessing eyes held her in place.

“Max, leave the lady alone. We need to focus.” Mr. Grumpy’s voice was a low growl. A warning lit up inside Jess, but her body was sending mixed signals like the adrenaline rush one had before jumping over a cliff.

“You spend your time the way you want. I prefer spending time with the girl.” Max had a Russian accent. He pulled her even closer, and his hand slipped around her waist.

When he began to nibble her ear, Jess flinched. She tried to relax and let her inhibitions fall away, but the disgusted look of Mr. Grumpy reminded her of just how low she’d fallen in the past month. This was a bad idea.

As their affair heats up, they soon realize they complete each other in ways neither imagined. REVIEW

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the first in the Dare series and I found it to be an incredibly sexy read.

The book has humour, sexiness and love all good things for a book.

It is well written and the characters are loveable.

I'm looking forward to reading the next book.

Excerpt

“Are you okay?” he asked from his place across the room.
Riley drew a deep breath and nodded, still attempting to calm down, to assure herself that what she’d seen in the mirror hadn’t been reality. She’d sworn she’d never be that woman, the one who needed a man so desperately she’d accept anything and everything he dished out.
She replayed the events of the last few minutes in her mind. He’d been cold and unforgiving, but she was the one who’d flipped out. He’d grabbed her, yes, but the minute she’d told him to take his hands off her, he had.
And he’d apologized.
Two things she’d never seen her father do.
Rationally she knew that people could argue and get past it, and that’s all they’d done. Had an argument.
She swallowed hard and slowly crossed the room to where Ian stood. “I don’t understand everything that just happened between us,” she said truthfully.
He met her gaze, equal confusion in the gray depths. “I’m not so sure I get all of it myself.” He gestured to the sofa, and she joined him, settling in with just a few inches of space between them.
They sat in silence for long minutes until Ian finally spoke. “I’ve been telling myself for years I want nothing to do with them.”
She knew he was referring to his father’s other children, and she nodded, wanting him to continue without interruption.
His chiseled features were hard as he spoke. “When my father offered your address and phone number in exchange for me reaching out to my half siblings, I grabbed the opportunity. I let him bribe me, and the why has been eating at me ever since.”
“Maybe you really wanted an excuse to get to know them?” she suggested, thinking that deep down, Alex and Ian wanted the same thing.
He exhaled a harsh breath. “Yeah. And that’s what’s been bothering me. I don’t want to want anything from them,” he said, running a hand through his short hair.
“Why do you hate them so much?” she asked hesitantly. “The resentment for your father I understand. But Alex and his siblings are as much victims of circumstance as you and your sisters were.”
“Because he chose them.” Each word came out sharp and punctuated with pain. “And before you say it, I’m fully aware these aren’t the thoughts of a rational adult.”
Unable not to respond, she inched closer, clasping his hand in hers. “No, but they are the feelings of a wounded child.”
He frowned at that. “I was an adult when we found out about them.”
“About eighteen, right?”
He nodded.
“If you ask me, eighteen is very much an in-between age. You were entitled to the resentment.”
He looked away, and she sensed him sorting through his thoughts.
“Graduations, birthdays, a broken arm, a burst appendix. We didn’t have a father for any of those events. We thought he was too busy working, and not that it made it okay to miss out on so much, but it made sense. And I looked up to him because he had this strong work ethic, so he could provide for his family. For us.”
She saw the child he’d been, idolizing his father, and her heart softened even more.
“It turns out,” he went on, “even if he’d been working, he was living with them while he did. Because he loved Savannah, while my mother was just the marriage his parents had forced on him to keep the business running.” He leaned his head back against the sofa, his emotions running high.
She sighed, wishing there were words that would help, knowing there were none. She understood so much more about his side of things now.
“It makes sense you’d resent them. But it also makes sense that a part of you wants to be included in their family, especially since your sisters are close with Sienna.”
He glanced at her, looking more the hurt young boy than the composed man she was used to seeing.
“Well, it doesn’t matter, does it? Because Alex wants nothing to do with me.”
“He’ll come around.” She hoped. Because the guilt was killing her.
But guilt and her best friend’s disapproval didn’t change her feelings for Ian, which were developing and growing stronger in a very short period of time. She was still shaken up by seeing shades of her parents in her interactions with Ian, but the facts weren’t the same as her memories. And this revealing conversation showed her that even if she had flashbacks, she needed to remember to view Ian differently than she did her own father.
“And if he doesn’t come around?” Ian asked, still on their conversation about Alex.
Riley knew what he was asking, and she didn’t want to choose. She couldn’t. “All I know is, right now, I want everything to do with you.”
She rose and straddled him, her knees on either side of his waist, her sex directly over his now-thickening erection.
His hips surged upward, and he let out a low groan. “I know what you’re doing.”
“Really? Enlighten me.”
He met her gaze, heat and desire simmering in the depths. “I spilled my guts, and now you’re distracting me so you don’t have to spill yours about what happened with you.”
He was right, not that she’d admit it. “Today wasn’t about me.” And she wasn’t in the mood to revisit her childhood out loud, when she’d just gotten him beyond his, at least for now.
“That’s a non-answer.” He braced his hands on her waist, seemingly more himself.
“I don’t want to dig into my past right now. Okay?”
His gaze sharpened. “What happened earlier had to do with your past?”
She hadn’t meant to reveal even that much. Seeking a distraction, she ground down on his hard length, moaning when the sensations rushed through her, delicious waves of yearning that precipitated the building of a fast orgasm.
His fingers pressed deeper into her flesh, and her flimsy, lace panties grew wetter. Heat spread from her core throughout every part of her being.
“I will get to know you,” he said, his words a definite warning.
Maybe so, but not right now. She slid her body away from his so there was enough space to give her room to ease her hand into the elastic waist of his pants and brush the head of his cock.
His erection jerked against her hand.
“Commando?” she asked, the very thought sending heat spiraling through her.
He shrugged, as if his lack of underwear were an everyday occurrence. “I sleep nude, might as well make life as easy as possible.”
“I can’t say I mind.” She eased her fingers deeper so she could wrap them around his velvety, thick penis.
His hips bucked, his gaze darkened, and his erection grew even more solid beneath the firm grip of her hand. Knowing she could wreak havoc with his control caused a rush of pleasure to storm her senses. Her breasts throbbed with the need to be touched, but this wasn’t about her.
She wanted to take his mind off his family’s rejection. Make him feel better. Just make him feel.

REVIEW

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the second book in the series starring the sexy Alex.

The story told here is really about second chances and how we grab a hold of them if we do get the chance.

The sex scenes are hot and there is also a lot of love there.

Let's see what the third book entails.

EXCERPT

“Alex, I believe you know Madison Evans.”
Blindsided — and his half brother knew it — Alex strode up to her.  He inhaled her familiar fruity scent, which only served as a reminder of the hot times he’d spent breathing her in as his cock moved inside her body. Her effect on him was potent, and even the most common expressions failed him.
“Alex,” she said, her cool tone bringing his head out of the desire-filled fog he’d found himself in.
“Hey, Angel,” he said, using the endearment he’d started calling her during their brief time together.  Another sign he’d had it bad, whether he’d wanted to admit it or not.
Her head whipped up, her eyes narrowing and settling on Ian.  “This won’t work.”  She turned to go.
Alex still had excellent reflexes, and he grabbed her arm before she could stride past him.
She glared.
He didn’t look away, determined to win this battle of wills.  This potential job, which had interested him on an intellectual and emotional level initially, suddenly felt even more important, and she was the reason.
“We need to talk,” he insisted.
“I have nothing to say.”
“Ian’s proposition said otherwise.”
Madison looked over his shoulder in search of Ian and frowned.  “Well, the traitor is gone.  No big surprise there.”
Smart man, Alex thought.  “If I let you go, will you stay long enough to discuss this position Ian and Riley want me to take?”
She let out a frustrated puff of air.
He took that as a yes and released her.
“Us working together is not a good idea, and somewhere in that thick head of yours, you know that.”
“Because we slept together? More than a couple of times?”
She set her jaw.  “That was a mistake.”
Ouch.  That hurt, he thought, and filed away the why to deal with later.  “I want to know more about this training program and what my role in it would be.”
“Why? You can’t possibly be interested.”
“It sounds more like you don’t want me to be interested.”
She rolled her shoulders back even farther, stiffening her posture.  “You’re right.  I don’t.  This is a serious project that could help a lot of people and have far-reaching positive repercussions for years to come.  I need a partner willing to go all in.  And let’s face it, I’ve seen your staying power.  It’s nonexistent.”
He winced, knowing she was really referring to him and relationships.  And she was right.  At least, that’s how he had been.  Six months with nothing to do but live in his own head, had brought changes she knew nothing about.
Eyebrows raised, stern expression on her face, she glared at him as if he were something she’d scraped off her shoe.
In the span of five minutes, she’d insulted him more than anyone had in probably his entire life.  So why was he turned on? He shifted his stance in a futile effort to adjust his cock and gain some sort of ease or comfort.  Not happening around her, and he knew it.
“I’ll give you that one insult because I deserved it.”
She wrinkled her nose in confusion.
Good. He liked her off balance.  Much better than spitting mad.  “Any more and I’ll have to take action.”
She opened her mouth then closed it again, because as they were both intimately aware, he’d have no trouble following through on his threat.
“Care to tell me what you have planned for this program?” he asked, deliberately all business.  He strode over to the chair at the head of the table and settled in.
She obviously realized he was serious because she headed for the stack of folders on the table and sifted through them.
Coming up with the one she wanted, she opened it and glanced down only briefly before speaking.  “Football players — anyone in training for prolonged periods of time — live a very regimented life.  From what and when they eat to their exercise routine to when to practice and attend team meetings, everything is laid out for them.  One injury and everything changes.”  She eyed him warily from beneath her lashes.
He was surprised she’d still worry about his feelings after how he’d treated her.  “Go on.  I can take it.”
She nodded.  “Suddenly they can eat what they want, when they want, and they gain unhealthy amounts of weight that isn’t balanced out by the exercise they used to do.  Lack of education and preparation result in poor financial choices.  Most athletes run through any good money they might have made in a short amount of time.  Marriages crumble from the strain.  Not to mention, they get bored, and depression sets in.  I have statistics, but for now, you can just take my word for it.”
He didn’t have to.  He’d begun experiencing some of it himself.
“What’s your solution?” he asked, impressed with the knowledge she already had regarding the problem they faced.
“Education.”  She tapped the folder on the table.  “All football colleges and universities need to have programs geared to post-career options.  It’s not enough to offer a finance or business major.  They need to target post-professional life.  From our perspective, that means we start from the ground up. We contact schools and propose just such an approach.  We hire ex-players willing to speak to the kids about the importance of thinking beyond football.  And at a team level, we begin to provide all sorts of counseling and training.  Nutrition, business classes, psychological counseling.  Another goal is to eliminate the stigma of retirement, and to do that, we need to prepare our players for the future.”  She finished her speech, her cheeks flushed pink and her eyes wide, her passion for the subject evident.
Fuck, she was gorgeous.
He’d seen a similar look on her face before, right before he’d slid his fingers inside her and teased her to climax.  He closed his eyes, dragging in a controlled breath.
Wrong time, wrong place.  Wrong everything.
He might want to return to where they’d been before he’d opened his big mouth and thrown her out of his hospital room, but she wanted nothing to do with him.  She didn’t trust him, and he didn’t blame her.  He needed to win her over before he could let himself even think about sinking back into her body.  She needed to see he’d changed, grown up.
And maybe he needed to prove the same thing to himself.
“I’m in,” he told her.
“Excuse me?”
“I’ll take the job.”
She pinched the bridge of her nose.  “Didn’t Ian tell you it’s up to me who to hire?”
Alex shook his head, silently cursing his manipulative brother.  “No, I think the plan was to throw us in here like gladiators and see who survived.”
To his surprise, she let out an amused laugh.
The desire to kiss the dimples on either side of her mouth was strong.  Beneath the table, he curled his fingers into fists, curbing his desire.  His frustration wasn’t as easily controlled.
“I really don’t think we can work together,” she said, sobering.
“Then I’ll just have to convince you otherwise.”

REVIEW

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the third book in the Dare series, but we have a crossover into the Invitation to Eden book.

Two people that are so right for each other but are kept apart. By circumstances. One has to be in control and the other needs to get stronger, build their self esteem.

Again the sex scenes are hot and steamy, but they don't overrule this book, we have a lot of love and storyline in here as well.

A good sexy read.
