Tangled Rose (The Darkness Trilogy #1) by Abby Weeks

Warning! This book contains triggers that some readers will find distressing. It is not for the faint of heart.

This is the provocative opening book to The Darkness Trilogy
Tainted Rose is the second book.
Twisted Rose is the finale.

Drawn from experiences in the author's own life, this is a heartbreaking and painful story of abuse, degradation and humiliation. While the trilogy as a whole ends happily, this book does not. You've been warned!

Rose Meadows has been kidnapped. She wakes up in a motel room, tied to the bed, and she is terrified. Never could she have imagined what the men who took her have in store. The pleasures they seek are not only sexual; they want that, but they also want to abuse her in more degrading and devastating ways. They want to humiliate her. They want to debase her. And most of all, they want to break down her trust in the one thing that can eventually set her free: Love.

Start this trilogy if you are brave enough to see it through to the end. It is a heartbreaking story but it is also a triumphant one. It shows that love can be found in the darkest of places, and that sometimes it is the roughest and hardest of men who prove to be the most surprising.

* First published in the anthology, Dark Passions.

REVIEW BY MAZZY BOSS LADY
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This is a dark read, about a female who gets kidnapped by the MC club that wiped out her father and his club.

I found reading this it's about humiliation and degradation and where Rose has been broken in such as way she has lost all hope and actually believes that she is worthless and disgusting.

I felt that there was something missing reading this but I just cant put my finger on it.

Maybe I will find it in book 2

Excerpt

Chapter 1 – One Year Ago
Dan

My hand shot left and landed on the alarm clock, silencing its incessant beeping. There was no point even setting it. I’d been awake for hours, anyway, but inside my nerves were having a hay day. Heartbeats thudded against my chest as I sucked in deep breaths trying to calm myself.
“Fuck it,” I muttered, kicking my heavy comforter off.
I swung my legs over the edge of the bed and ran a hand through my messy morning hair. My eyes traveled to the phone on my nightstand. I picked it up, sent a quick message to my brother, then tossed it beside me on the bed and made my way to the kitchen in nothing but my boxers. After dumping coffee grinds into the maker and setting the machine to brew, I braced my arms against the white countertop and stared down mindlessly while I waited. Your brain knew when something was important. It wouldn’t let you think of anything else. It was all-consuming. Today, it might just be the death of me.
I filled my lucky Denver Bronco’s mug and paced my way through the house. Wearing a path in the floor was the only thing slowing my thoughts. I downed a few sips and stopped in front of a tall bookshelf. A covered box containing all my letters from Jase was nestled there.
It had started out as a joke, but neither of us could stop writing. I told him I had a mailbox at college and then every week I had a letter waiting for me. And every week I’d write him back. I saved them all. His latest had me smiling hard. He was happy. Really happy—thanks to her. I needed to meet that girl. My eyes caught a glimpse of the clock; it was nearly time.
I took a shower and slipped on a pair of worn jeans, a plain tee, and my Nikes. Sucking in a deep breath, I grabbed my keys and left, bracing myself for the day ahead.
I was only an hour into my drive when the red engine light caught my eye. It came on every once in a while, so I pushed it to the back of my mind. My foot pressed a little harder on the gas pedal. As the needle on the speedometer crept higher, a new light on the dashboard lit up. And then it happened—my car started to shut down. “Fuck.” I banged my fist at the wheel as the car slowed. But no amount of banging or cursing helped. I veered to the shoulder of the highway, dodging car after car. Finally, the piece of crap stopped dead.
“No, no, no. Don’t do this to me now.” I pounded the steering wheel again, ready to beat it to death. “Not today. Damn it!” I reached for my phone in the cup holder, dialed the number for Triple A, and within minutes the rep said a tow truck would be on its way. Estimated time of forty-five minutes. Great.
It was too important of a day to be starting out like this. I only prayed things turned around.

This is the 2nd book in the series and it's a very emotional read.

Cassie didnt get her HEA, and I was rooting for her to do that in book 1.

This story is about second chances after loss and even though it feels like life should end and you will never be happy again, thats not the case.

Another well written read.

Beware the procrastination Demons

Oh the procrastination... I swear it follows me and begs me to give in and say "just a few minutes, let us take you away."
Here are the top offenders that are high on my list for procrastinator inhibitors:
1) Facebook. HELLOOOO... if you're not spending hours a day on Facebook, you're doing it wrong. LOL. #saveme #goingonhoureight #canIgetpaidtofacebookplease
2) Pinterest - They might as well take away my willpower. I always tell myself I'll only be "a few minutes" and then five hours pass and I have no clue what day it is. But let's be honest, the inspiration that comes from pining is as valuable to an author as reality television is to the Kardashian's (guilty of watching as well, #sorrynotsorry). So, I'll gladly give Pinterest my time in return for amazing photos of muses, outfits I never thought to put together, recipes I'll never try, and Halloween costumes I wish I had the talents to make. #thankyoutimesucker
3) Spotify - Stumped on your next scene? Not sure what to write? Let's just go to Spotify and find some musical inspiration! This is one of those, "Sounded like a good idea at the time" places to visit. If you're a music junky like myself, then beware of the holding powers Spotify has. One song search is all you're going to do... NOT. Three playlists, eight new authors to follow, and ten updates to facebook later... #justsaygoodbyetoyourday #haveyoulistenedtothissongyet #dontjudgemymusic
4) Goodreads - This place might as well be called "Good, I've got you and I'm not letting you go, Reads" - Had other plans for the day? Like, maybe... WRITE! No... not happening now. You start by going to rate a book you just read, or maybe even check out what's on your current TBR... HAHAHA.... half a day later you've just added 150 books to your TBR and are currently reading the blurb to some book your mom probably read back when she attended High School. Cue, cheesy old school hair blowing in the wind romance cover. #howdidIenduphere #addingittomyTBRanyway #thiscoverrocks #momproabablylikedthisbook

Congrats, you've just wasted half a day and added a years worth more of books to read when you already don't have time! #whattheheckiswrongwithme

And there you have it... my procrastination demons.

I found this to be a quick read and a very sweet romance.

It was well written, the plot easy to follow and the characters likable.

This is the first in a series of books and also my first by this author.

If your looking for a quick, sweet romance then this is the book for you.

~ About the Author ~

B.A. Wolfe is a girl with a passion for reading and writing, and lives in the good ol’ state of Colorado with her husband (her biggest cheerleader), and her two crazy min pin fur babies. These days, her life is anything but calm, and there isn’t one thing she’d want to change. B.A. spends all her free time either furiously typing stories on her laptop or happily reading through her endless T BR on her Kindle. Her list of favorites would be long enough to fill a book, but most would likely fall under the romance category. She is a sucker for a good love story that makes her cry, and an amazing book boyfriend who will melt her heart. ‘Away’ is B.A. Wolfe’s debut novel.

I found this to be a quick read, a book about two people loosing touch only to find each other again.

There is a twist in this story, and that made this book an even better read.

A nice romantic, sweet story

After the Rain Shadow series had finished, I really wanted to know more about the Barringer Brothers and I got my wish with this new series.

This first book is about Gage, I really wanted to know Gage's background and the reasons why he is the way he is.
We learn why Gage was the rebel he was and why he was sent to live with his grandfather.

Another brilliant read from Tess and lets see which hot man we have next.

EXCERPT:

He looked at me a long moment. "I want you so fucking bad, Summer, it hurts." He combed his long hair back with his fingers and chuckled at some inside joke. "You have no idea how bad."
"Then what's holding you back? It seems to me--"
He shook his head. "Can't explain it to myself." His dark lashes dropped as he stared down at the floor, and when he lifted his face to me, I realized that I was falling hard for him.
"I guess I don't want to scare you off." He shook his head. "Not that I'm scary in bed," he quickly amended. "I don't want to come on too strong. Hell, I guess I'm just trying to make a good impression."
"Stop with the good impression shit. I want a lasting impression, Gage."
His pale blue eyes flickered in the light as he looked at me. "I can do lasting." He crossed the room in two steps. His arms curled around my back, and he pulled me against him. His mouth covered mine. The kiss was long and hard and driven by that intense longing that had been building up between us. He took hold of my good hand and walked me down the short hall to my bedroom. He pushed open the door with his boot and led me inside.

 Excerpt

The cabin was dark and gloomy in the moonlight, its stairs even squeakier than mine. I slowly followed him up them, waiting until he flipped on the light before stepping inside. The decorum was what I would have expected—nonexistent. A plain brown couch was pressed up against the bare wood wall, a boxed-out TV sitting on a makeshift stand on the opposite wall with a set of rabbit ears on top. There were no curtains or throw pillows. No rugs, no runner on the tiny dining room table. But it was clean, and it was cool, and it smelled like him. My eyes fluttered closed as I breathed him in, the scent so overwhelming I felt myself sway. When I opened them again, he was gone. Glancing from side to side, I stepped further inside and peeked down the hallway, finding a bright light shining from an open door. I hesitantly started for it, smiling when I saw it was the bathroom. A towel and washcloth had been left out on the counter by the sink. I moved inside and closed the door, feeling around and then reaching up to find no lock. “Okay …” I mumbled to myself, turning back to the tub and twisting the handles until the temperature was perfect. Glancing back at the door, I quickly stripped out of my clothes, jumped inside and pulled the curtain shut behind me. The water was searing in the best sort of way, steaming up the room and loosening my sore muscles from a day of angry weed pulling. I could have stood under the hot spray all night, just basking in the forceful water pressure. This shower was so much better than Mona’s. Dipping my head back, I closed my eyes to wet my hair, hurriedly wiping the water from my face when I felt a brush of cool air against my legs. My heart pounded, thinking it was Joe, but it was only the air from the furnace blowing the shower curtain. I couldn’t imagine what I would have done if it had been him. The fact that I wanted to find out had me washing off a little quicker. I didn’t know if I was ready for him to see me naked. I dried off and got dressed as close as I could to the door in order to avoid that accident waiting to happen. If he did ever end up seeing me naked, I wanted to be prepared and not look like a drowned cat if I could help it. When I emerged from the bathroom, he was coming down the hallway, shirtless and with the button of his pants undone. I swallowed, unable to take my eyes off his zipper until he reached out for my towel. “Mind if I use that?” “Uh, yeah.” I handed it over. “I mean, not unless you do.” “Nope.” He slid past me and into the bathroom, setting my bag out in the hallway before cracking the door. I stood outside of it while I listened to him adjust the curtain and turn on the shower, trying to decide if I should just take off or not. I was getting ready to knock and tell him I was leaving when the water suddenly shut off, the shower curtain screeched and the door opened to reveal a mess of towel-dried brown hair and a shiny, wet chest.

This is a coming of age story, full of angst and emotions.

We follow the lives of two teenagers and how the trials of life affect them.

The story told here is true to life and could happen to anyone.

A well written book and the characters were easily related to.
