This is a pretty woman type of story. Rae is in Paris on business, business as Georgette Montgomery .
Cohen is a rich, sexy man who's bad boy ways is starting to catch up to him, so in order to look the part of stable man he hires Rae to pretend to be his fiance . neither one expected what they found in each other. Love, friendship, companionship. They bring out the best in each other. I really enjoyed this book.

Excerpt:

“So you want me to change.” His jaw is taut.

“You need to change, or you’re not going to get what you want,” I say. He needs to hear it. “And you’re going to be miserable your whole life—”

“I don’t know how to change!” he says loudly.

I stop, half-expecting the divider separating us from the driver to roll down, but it doesn’t. We’re still alone in the backseat. I should be afraid, should be recoiling the way
I do whenever a man raises his voice to me. But when I reach for the fear, I don’t find it. All I find is…pity?

“I know what I am. What I’m like.” His voice cracks, just slightly, but he masters it. “If I
could be different, I would. Do you understand that? I’m not like you. I can’t slip on someone else’s persona like changing my clothes.”

That stupid twinge of pity turns into a full-fledged needle. I’m very familiar with that shadow in his voice, because it’s been in my heart for years. Self-loathing. At least I can escape myself by being other people. He doesn’t even have that luxury.

Stop it, Rae. Don’t you dare feel sorry for him. He has everything you’ve ever wanted, remember?

“That’s bullshit,” I say bluntly. “You can change. Anyone can change.”

“Show me.”

“What?”

He turns his full gaze directly on me, and I lose myself for a brief second in those ice eyes. “Show me how to be someone else. You do it so easily. You’re getting paid enough, I might as well get some use out of you.”

“You mean like…give you niceness lessons?”

He grimaces. “I’d rather we didn’t call it that.”

“Well…” I hesitate.

“Please,” he says emotionlessly. And if I had to bet on it, I’d say it was damn near the first time that word had passed through those perfect lips.

Meet Lila & Blake in this unexpected love story!

Excerpt
When the rustling continues, I throw my covers off and roll out of bed. My bare feet pad against the cool hardwood floors as I make my way into the living room. Wiping the sleep from my eyes, I focus in on a shirtless Blake standing in front of the stove with his strong back to me. His body is sculpted. Wide shoulders. Waist tapering in at just the right angle … there’s probably not a pinch of fat on the guy.
I quietly walk up behind him, tapping my finger on his shoulder. “We need to talk.”
He spins around, his arm brushing against mine. His hair is mussed—a look he wears well … too well, as much as I hate to admit it.
“I only made enough eggs for me.” He smirks, and two stupid dimples form. He’s cute—stupidly so.
“I’m a cereal kind of girl,” I say, crossing my arms.
His smile widens. “Fruit Loops or Captain Crunch? I’m guessing you like the ones with the cute little cartoon characters on the front of the box.”
“Wheaties. I prefer to stare at a sexy athlete while eating my breakfast.” I stop, moving my hands to my hips. “Look, can we make a rule? No loud noises until at least nine. Some of us need our beauty sleep.”
His brow lifts. “Now that you mention it, your eyes are a little dark and puffy. It’s nothing a little make-up won’t fix.”
“You’re an asshole!”
He laughs, nibbling on a piece of egg at the end of his spatula. “That’s nothing I haven’t heard before.”
“Are you done? Because I’d really like to crawl back into my nice warm bed.”
He looks back to the stove. “Yep, breakfast is served.”
“Good. I’m going back to bed.”
I start to walk away, but his voice stops me. “Hey, Lila?” He says my name with extra emphasis on the second syllable—in a way I haven’t heard it before. I turn around, taking in his dark, hooded eyes. “If you’re going to walk around looking like that every morning, I might be okay with this roommate thing.”
Looking down, I’m suddenly reminded that all I have on is a sleep shirt that reads: “I don’t hate morning people. Mornings have nothing to do with it.” It barely covers my ass, and the wide neck falls off my shoulder. It’s certainly not something I’d want to be caught in by him.
“Definitely an asshole,” I groan as I hurry to my room and slam the door shut behind me.

Genre: Contemporary Romantic Fiction
Norman Smithson is at the end of the line. His wife left him, women don't look at him, he was made redundant, and at forty, he could be just that little bit slimmer. He would be a has-been if he'd ever been a 'was' in the first place. He's not the Alpha male of the 21st century – or of any century. He was the chubby oddball who used to sit silently at the back of the class so he wouldn't get picked on.

Rosa is a dreadlocked, tattooed and pierced twenty-something, who uses her image as armour to keep everyone away from every broken thing about her. But her past is about to catch up with her ... at the exact moment Norman finds himself in completely the wrong place, at the worst possible time.

One gunshot, one scramble for life, one unlikely couple, one very long night ... can one damaged woman and one ordinary man, find the extraordinary in the very last second they're given?

Broken Lights is a standalone story of what's really worth fighting for, when one second is all you have left.

Review by Emma Mistress of all Dark & Twisted

Prepare yourselves to venture into the darkness with Courtney Lane's standalone novel The Sect. Courtney's work always takes me on a journey with her writing and The Sect is no different, the symbolism and subtle nuances are there for the reader if you know where to look, just like Keaton in the book all her answers are hidden in plain sight. This book truly is dark so heed the warnings. This is difficult one to review without spoilers, but it's not a typical captive story.

The book follows Keaton Mara, a young woman who has lived a privileged life, but that life style still could not protect her from one of life's monsters. She suffers at the hands of a beast who will not let her go and she flees to seek sanctuary on the street of Washington D C. There she has her first taste of real freedom. Free of the constraints of her family, society and materialism she can truly 'see'. It's still a life of fear but "it's paradise compared to what I've been through." reasons Keaton.

One unwise decision changes that. An enigmatic, dark haired man called Noah herds her from the streets to Rebirth: a place where Gods and Monsters are one and the same, the elite and unworthy mingle, pleasure and pain beautifully entwine under one man's rule. Keaton believes she can gain her freedom easily as pain, misery and torture don't touch her any more, but one man knows her secret.... The way to break her completely. Can she trust him not to share this secret when this weapon he wields could destroy her completely whilst she's barely surviving in the depths of hell?? What you see isn't always what's reality and what your told isn't always the truth whilst she's kept at Rebirth. Keaton learns for herself "the strong don't break, they give in only because they need to find a way to survive." But what is the price she has to pay to stay strong?

This book has so many themes; freedom and what that really means, vengeance and salvation; if your intentions are good and just does the method you take to achieve it really matter as "sometimes we have to do bad to do good." And how does a person live with the sacrifices they had to make for the greater good? Finally, Good and Evil, these lines are constantly in flux and blur throughout this novel through people's actions and words, you will be battling to see good in what's evil and not want to see the evil in what's always been good.
This book with all its twists, turns and revelations will keep you hooked from start to finish and it's one I can't recommend enough!!

Review by Mazzy Boss Lady

Read in December, 2014

*** I received an arc in exchange for an honest review ****

Warning this book is extremely dark and some readers may take offence to the content.

This is one of those books for me, where it had me captivated so much so it was a read that I was unable to put down.

I felt that Courtney took a different concept and turned it into an amazing read, it is a very dark read and I do love these types of books.

Noah had me confused and during reading this book, I wanted to love him but I needed to know why he was like he was. I felt that he was given clues along the way, but then he turned it around and I felt like punching him lol.

Keaton was running away from a horrible incident and felt that she would be better off on the streets, little did she know what horrors awaited her. She never gave up though, she stayed strong even with everything going on around her and to her. My initial thoughts was she was protected by someone as she didn't seem to get the punishments everyone else did and was treated differently when she got to where she was taken.

Courtney's style of writing is the type that shows it is written from the heart and also research so all the facts are correct.
The story-line flows perfectly and you are pulled in to the story from the very first page.
The characters are created to be like every day people that could very well be living in our society today.

I really love Courtney's books and I will be revisiting the ones I have already read and ones that I haven't. She is a fantastic author that everyone should read one or more of her books

This really is a book that you have to read, a definite one click book, you will find it very hard to put this book down once you start.

Excerpt:

Would you mind taking communion with me? His question was far from a real one.
I found my footing and knelt down beside him.
Arent you curious as to how I knew your name?
I shook my head, remaining silent. It was obvious that he, like Noah, had caught sight of the dozens of posters I hadnt yet taken down. I needed to assure myself of that to prevent running and screaming as Id initially planned. As for why he isolated me and offered me a golden ticketto a place I assumed was a mythI wasnt completely sure if I wanted to know. Nothing offered to me at this point in my life wouldve come without expectations.
Do you assume that in extending an invitation to you, I desire something in exchange? he asked, keeping his eyes on the pulpit.
I held my silence for too long, calling his direct attention. I gave him a blank stare, almost succeeding in matching the emptiness that seemed permanently held behind his eyes.
Your need to keep silent bothers me very little, Keaton. I have demands of you, and in the list of things you will be required to do, nowhere is it necessary for you to speak.
My silence remained, searching his eyes for a point or a purpose.
Your mother will catch up to you and she will return you to the life you so desperately want to disappear from. I can offer you a way in which shell never find you. I can offer you true freedom. With a nod, he began to recite the holy sacrament.
The pastor of the church appeared from the choir room adjacent to the inner sanctuary. I had recognized him as the one who often opened the doors to the church and sometimes served food in the kitchen. I was told, by the others, the only time he would speak was the moment he reached the pulpit, and his sermons moved many.
The pastor handed me a communion cracker from the silver tray he carried, and a small sampling of grape juice in a plastic flask. I took both down before standing, ready to return to Jeff and vow never to visit another soup kitchen again.
The street is not the place where you belong, Keaton, Reven stated, keeping his head bowed and his fingers clasped together. Its a very dangerous place that could be likened to hell.
Watching him rise to meet me, I shrugged. Ive lived through hell. Living on the street is paradise compared to what Ive been through. Thank you, but no. I cant leave Jeff. Ive never heard of him having anyone else to look out for him. I justwant to be there for him. Weneed each other.
He studied me with a steady glower. Im very disappointed in your decision, Keaton.
He was disappointed in me and I didnt even know him. I wasnt sure how to respond to that so I turned to leave.
Something was very wrong.
I felt a little dizzy as I walked down the aisle. Having difficulty finding my footing, I tripped over my feet and nearly fell. Before I slipped down, I was caught and guided by a set of strong hands. Blue eyes shrouded in hazel met mine, staring down at me with impassivity.

Unable to scream, I was easily swept away in Noahs strong, thick arms. Carrying me as though I was weightless, he transported me to the back of the church where the pastor held the door leading to the access alley open.

Author Bio:
Ive been creating my own little world since I was very young. When I was eight years old, I began to bring those worlds to life with pen and paper.

Although Ive had a few short hiatuses, writing has been of passion of mine for many years. I've always viewed my writing as a hobby or a purgative process; I never thought to share my very personal works with anyone outside of my family. Now, Im taking the plunge and self-publishing my works. Im very excited and apprehensive about the opportunity to share my work with people who may enjoy it.

While I write across genres (I find it hard to stick to one genre), I do have an archetype when it comes to the female protagonist they have to have certain brand of strength and layered personalities. There will often be a lot of darkness and depth to my stories, because I'm intrigued by characters who are thrust into "dark" situations that explore their psyche.

I prefer gritty love stories, where the protagonist isn't necessarily the girl next door, or the girl you encounter in everyday life. In other words, I don't tend to write characters who are easy to fall in love with.

The elements that will be common in my stories are: depth, controversy, thought-provoking and complex plots, and misfit characters.
