REVIEW: New Leaves, No Strings by C.J. Fallowfield @cjfallowfield

So that was sex, I liked it, I really liked it, thought Mia Page as she tried to recover from an Olympic worthy orgasm. She looked into the vivid blue eyes of sex god Gabe Austin who was still holding her up against her bedroom wall and she also thought shit what have I gone and gotten myself into? Why would anyone only want sex no strings with this guy?

Best friends Mia Page and Lexi Clarke start University and make a pact to turn over a new leaf. Tainted by their pasts, they’re going to try and get over their commitment phobias. Mia’s going to lose her virginity with hot, no strings attached sex. The rebellious Lexi’s going to try ditching her one night stands in favour of attempting to have a relationship.

What Mia didn’t count on however was Gabe Austin, confident, sexy and irresistibly gorgeous, who quickly inserts himself into her life. Inextricably drawn to each other, their desire soon leads to a passionate encounter. Gabe’s fears of abandonment and his domineering personality, along with Mia’s own fears of attachment, threaten to derail his attempts to ensure she becomes his, heart body and soul. Despite Mia’s reticence, Gabe Austin’s a guy who is used to getting what he wants. Just as he seems to have won Mia around, he goes and does something that could ruin everything.

This is a debut fictional novel for C.J. Fallowfield and combines erotica with romance and humour.

The Austin Series is six books in total, all written from Mia Page's point of view, and they are designed to be read in the following sequence:

New Leaves, No Strings
Baggage & Buttons
Forever & an Engine
The Honeymoon Period
Love & Loss
Infinite Love
In addition, there is a prequel to The Austin Series called Destined, written from Gabe Austin's point of view, available now, FREE from Goodreads, Amazon.com or Smashwords

♥♥♥♥♥REVIEW BY MAZZY BOSS LADY♥♥♥♥♥

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

♦♦♦♦ I received an arc in exchange for an honest review ♦♦♦

♥♥♥♥♥Wow upon wow this author can write some steamy scenes and this is the debut book from this author, she has incredible talent.

This was the most fantastic book, I have read. I was engrossed right from the start.

Has all the elements in a book that you need, from sexiness to angst.

Mia has abandonment issues and will not let anyone get close to her, even staying a virgin all this time. Until Gabe, beautiful sexy Gabe, deciding on a no strings affair.

Will that really work out?

Lexi, the foul mouthed, straight talking girl, I like her as she doesn't give a shit, but like Mia she is damaged and deals with it the opposite to Mia. Full of one night stands, but how will that end?

This story was great, the sex was sizzling, hot, steamy, the writing impeccable.

There is a cliffhanger and that leaves you wanting more, I need more now, I need to know what happens next to the trio! ♥♥♥♥♥

About me:

I am a 44 year old female from the United Kingdom and live in the wonderful countryside of Wales, surrounded by rolling hills, trees and fields full of sheep and cows. My writing companion is my adorable black cat, who forces me to take regular breaks from tapping away on my keyboard by sprawling across it for a sleep, or nudging my hand to let me know she needs some love, and I can never resist.

Inside I still feel like a teenager, as I laugh at pretty much everything, even when I shouldn’t, which often gets me very strange looks in the cinema. I love cats, pizza, Ben & Jerry’s and sway between Dairy Milk and Galaxy chocolate, never able to decide which is my favourite. I love reading books myself and as a super speedy reader I can devour a book a night and love many different types ranging from children’s literature like Harry Potter and Artemis Fowl (see, still a kid at heart), to classical literature like Little Women, Grimm’s Fairy tales, crime books especially Agatha Christie and downright saucy erotica. My music taste is just as eclectic.

I am a huge movie fan, favouring action adventure films and adore American TV shows, my all-time favourites from years gone by being Prison Break, Alias, Buffy & Angel, One Tree Hill, Smallville & 24. My top three celebrity hunks, who often help inspire me to write the lust and passion for my heroes in my novels, are Gabriel Macht, Jensen Ackles and Stephen Amell. On my current TV planner, priority is given to Suits, Supernatural, Arrow, Castle, The Blacklist, NCIS LA, Hawaii Five-0, The Following, The Vampire Diaries and there are far too many others to mention. Come to think of it, when do I have time to work or read, let alone write!

My favourite quote in life, something I try to live by myself, is:

I love to hear from my readers, you can leave a post on my guest book, or Facebook page or contact me via Goodreads.

Prisoner Annika Martin, Skye Warren

Publication date: October 23rd 2014
Genres: New Adult, Romance

  Cover

Synopsis: He seethes with raw power the first time I see him—pure tattooed menace and rippling muscles in shackles. He’s dangerous. He’s wild. He’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. So I hide behind my prim glasses and my book like I always do, because I have secrets, too. Then he shows up in the prison writing class I volunteered to teach and he blows me away with his honesty. He tells me secrets in his stories, and it’s getting harder to hide mine. I shiver when he gets too close, with only the cuffs and the bars and the guards holding him back. At night, I can’t stop thinking about him in his cell. But that’s the thing about an animal in a cage—you never know when he’ll bite. He might use you to escape. He might even pull you into a forest and hold a hand over your mouth, so you can’t call for the cops. He might make you come so hard, you can’t think. And you might crave him more than your next breath.

REVIEW BY NADIA CHIEF OBSESSIVE PIMPETTE

***Obsessed by books copy given in exchange for an honest review***

♥♥♥♥♥
This for me was a five star read, it's not my usual genre and I was shocked that once I had started I couldnt put it down till I had read to the end. That is a five star book in my opinion!
This is a book with many strong themes...battling a small town mindset, religion, homophobia, gun violence and acceptance. Set in high school this novel focusses on the battles fought to grow up, find yourself and have a place in this world where you fit in. The romance is gentle and felt real, it's a slow build and took in account their pasts.
It is beautifully written and delves into suicide, depression and other hard issues that are common place in our society. It's a brave book to cover these topics whilst remaining a true heart warming romantic tale.  I loved Grandma, although she passed before this book is set, her memory helps guide the characters and her presence is felt.  Matt...wow. I hope he at some point gets his own book. He is an exceptional character who I cried for and then cheered.
Take a chance and settle down with this book, it's characters will draw you in to their wonderfully written story of standing up for your beliefs and finding peace in being loved.

Q/A with Sydney Logan

How did you come up with the idea for this story?

They say to write what you know, so for Lessons Learned, I knew I wanted to write about teaching since that’s my “day job.” Thankfully, I haven’t had to deal with the traumas my main character faces. I also knew I wanted to write a love story with a message, and bullying is such an epidemic in our society that I wanted to highlight that in this book.

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

The most challenging thing is balancing writing and promotion. I’m not very good at it. It was easier when I only had one book, but the more I write, the harder it gets to juggle it all. I’m not complaining, because I love it, but that’s the biggest challenge for me.

 What are your current projects?

I’m getting ready to release a holiday collection of short stories titled Once Upon a December. It will include two previously published Kindle short stories along with a new short story. It will release on November 28. I’m also working on my fourth novel.

Excerpt: Chapter 1 The piercing chime of my phone jerked me awake. Disoriented and shaking, I grabbed my cell and struggled to focus on the screen. Congratulations, Sarah. You slept a whole three hours. Falling asleep had been difficult. My restlessness could easily be blamed on yesterday’s long drive or spending the night in a new place, but I hadn’t slept well in months, so my fitful sleep wasn’t all that surprising. However, I could do without the nightmares. It was nearly three in the morning when I’d finally arrived in Sycamore Falls. Exhausted from the drive, I’d collapsed on the couch, but sleeping proved impossible. It was just too quiet. I’d grown accustomed to noisy neighbors and blasting car horns. A change of scenery could be exactly what I need, my therapist had told me. Sycamore Falls was definitely a change in scenery. Stiff and sore from the uncomfortable couch, I groaned as I struggled to sit up. My body trembled when my bare feet hit the hardwood floor. I’d forgotten how cold this house could be, even in the summer, but anything with long sleeves would be in a box, and all the boxes were arranged in a chaotic mess in my living room. Maybe some sunshine will warm me up. I wrapped my blanket around me and circled the maze of boxes before shuffling toward the kitchen. It was neat and tidy as ever, with its faded yellow wallpaper. Grandma Grace had always loved wildflowers, and I smiled as I gazed at the collection of daisy canisters lining the wall next to the sink. Mom had been a terrible cook, so grandma had taken it upon herself to teach me. Baking was my favorite, and we’d spent countless nights in this kitchen with my apron covered in flour. Grandma had been fine with making a mess—as long as I cleaned it up—and that freedom had led to many honest discussions throughout the years. “Sycamore Falls has its issues,” Grandma had told me one autumn day while teaching me how to make fried apple pies. “We’re too sheltered from the rest of the world. Sometimes that’s a good thing. Sometimes it isn’t. The world can be a scary place. It’s good to know you have a safe place to come home to when the world gets a little crazy. You’re one of the lucky ones, Sarah. You will always have a home here. Remember that.” I remember. I opened the front door and was instantly greeted with cool morning air. Eager to see the house in the daylight, I gingerly walked down the steps and onto the sidewalk. Thankfully, Mr. Johnson had hired someone to mow the grass before I arrived, which allowed me to mark one thing off my to-do list. As I gazed up at the house, I could see my list would be long. Growing up, I’d thought my grandmother’s home was the most beautiful in Sycamore Falls. Majestic and blue with its white shutters and wrap-around porch, it was the place I’d always felt the most comfortable and safe. Time hadn’t been kind to the house, and that was my fault. Mr. Johnson had done his best, but a house needs tender loving care, and its last two years without an occupant had been rough on the place. The chipped siding needed a coat of paint, the flowerbeds resembled a jungle, and some of the shingles needed to be replaced, but none of that mattered. I felt a small sense of satisfaction and breathed a sigh of relief. I was safe. I was home.

REVIEW BY EMMA MISTRESS OF ALL DARK & TWISTED

♥♥♥♥♥

Stacey Lynn never fails to deliver with her Nordic Lords MC series. Point of Freedom is the third book and all can be read as standalones, but I'd recommend reading the other first to get back-story on the dynamics of the clubs dynamics and history.

This time it's Jules and Jaden's turn in the spot light and I for one have been waiting for this book. We've met these two before in books one and two, the reactions of both them to each other was instantly intriguing and you knew there has to be a lot of history behind Jaden's anger and visible hate towards Jules. Their dual pov gives the reader an insight into both their feelings which really helps when Jaden acts to gruff and silent.

They have a connection via Jaden's brother Scratch and many misconstrued facts, long time resentments and pain has clouded Jaden's views for too long. Jules has tried to bury her pain but all that has done is left her making herself miserable and making many bad decisions. She returns home with her daughter Sophie and hopes to have a fresh start. Unfortunately, that past isn't staying away and nor is Jaden. Jaden, is one hot, passionate angry boy but coupled with Jules' calm, clear headed nature they make a fantastic couple. Will they find a way to forgive one another and move forwards or will long standing hatred, past mistakes and club life stand in the way of their road to happiness??

The parallel story of the Nordic Lords MC life dramatically interweaves with Jaden and Jules' relationship, highlights the dangerous lives they lead and consequences of choosing to be with a biker. Along with illustrating how far the bond of family goes and how far their willing to go to protect what they call their own.

This book starts soon after Faith and Ryker have got back together and finishes at the same point as book two at Olivia and Daemon's wedding so a cross over of timelines occurs.

“I would have given it to you last night. Anything you wanted, you turned those lying innocent eyes on me and I would have fucked you so hard you’d forget all about Scratch.” “That’s…” I swallowed and his lips grazed the hollow of my throat. “That’s an asshole thing to say, Jaden.” “I know.” He pulled away, our noses almost touching, our harsh breathing mingling together. “Good thing in the light of day I remember what a selfish, lying killer you are, isn’t it?”

Date of Publication: October 23rd 2014
goodreads-badge-add-plus-d700d4d3e3c0b346066731ac07b7fe47   About Court: For more than 400 years, a secret monarchy has survived and thrived within the borders of the US, hiding in plain sight as the state known as Wyoming. But when the king is shot and his seventeen-year-old son, Haakon McHale, is told he will take the throne, becoming the eleventh ruler of the Kingdom of Eurus, the community that's survived for centuries is pushed to the limit. Told through four perspectives, Court transplants us to a world that looks like ours, but isn't. Gwendolyn Rose, daughter of the Duke of Coal, is grudgingly betrothed to Haakon -- and just wants a way out. Alexander Oxendine, son of the Duke of Wind and Haakon's lifelong best friend, already grapples with external struggles when he's assigned to guard Haakon after the king dies. And commoner Mary Doyle finds whispers in the woods that may solve -- or destroy -- everything, depending on your bloodline. Money. Love. Power. Community. What's your motivation?

  Q&A with Cat:

Where did the idea came from? After writing The Originals, I wanted to write something from multiple character perspectives. Around that time, I was thinking of my home state of Wyoming. A friend had recently driven through, and I thought about how people who aren’t from there don’t really know that much about Wyoming—it could be its own world, hiding secrets. It could be its own kingdom.

Out of all the 4 perspectives, which is the hardest to write? Surprisingly, the boys’ voices came easiest. (And there used to be two more!) As for one POV being more difficult than the others, I think the real challenge was developing each voice individually with only a heaping handful of chapters per character.

How do you think you’ve evolved creatively? Any craft grows with practice, and I hope that I’ve become a more controlled writer as I’ve published more books. I’m definitely more of a risk-taker than I was in the beginning, as well.

What 5 things would you like readers to know about you? That I’m the greatest mommy in the world. (Say my children.) I love, and am inspired by, wind. I can kill it at Dance Central on Xbox. I share a birthday with one of my siblings. I once met Muhammad Ali.

Excerpt: HAAKON Before he was the enemy, James Haakon McHale III was just a seventeen-year-old in what most people knew as the state of Wyoming, wishing he was somewhere other than the predawn forest with a rifle in his grip. “It’s colder than moonlight on a tombstone,” Haakon muttered, blowing on his fist. His thick-soled boots swish-thumped on the hard earth as he skillfully avoided twigs, rocks, and low branches. Alexander Oxendine—youngest son of the Duke of Wind, wide receiver, video game button masher, and Haakon’s best friend—laughed into his collar. It could’ve been mistaken for a cough. “It’s colder than a whore’s heart,” Alexander said, his tone cautiously low. They were the youngest members of the hunting party, and were only allowed to take part because of their rank. Haakon could think of a thousand superior privileges. He glanced around to make sure none of the other men were paying attention—especially his father. Smirking, he said, “Colder than a polar bear’s balls.” The pair stifled laughter. “Than a witch’s—” “Too easy.” “Colder than a dead woman’s touch,” Alexander said. Haakon checked again, dialed down his voice even more, and said, “It’s colder than Gwendolyn Rose’s kiss.” “Quiet!” It was Haakon’s father: dictator, fun-spoiler, and—regrettably for his son—the tenth ruler of the Kingdom of Eurus, also known as the Realm, the monarchy hiding in plain sight in the depths of the Democracy known as the United States of America. Every schoolchild knew the story. In 1670, after Joseph Dyer’s wife died in the Great Plague in London, he brought his five daughters to what would become the United States one hundred years later, seeking a better life. But it soon became apparent that his family would never thrive under strict Puritan rule in New England–which banned higher education for girls and taught submissiveness above all else, and which centered around extreme religious beliefs that were counter to Dyer’s own. A friend, John Seymour, who was—controversially—married to a Native woman, suggested that they set out together in search of a new home deep within America’s treacherous unknown. Seymour’s wife had been attacked; her family persecuted. Seymour believed that rather than fighting the Natives, they should live in harmony with them. Dyer, Seymour, and several other men and their families snuck away. After a long and dangerous journey, together they created their version of paradise: a kingdom that blended the best of England with Native cultures. Dyer was thought of as the Father of the Realm, and Seymour’s Native wife, who ensured their survival through tribal relations, the Mother. Rather than cause a revolution, the founders decided to keep the kingdom secret. Inside the borders of what they’d eventually stake claim as Wyoming, they’d follow their own rules. Outsiders wouldn’t know they were different because they wouldn’t understand. Outsiders weren’t to be trusted. Dyer’s youngest daughter, captivated by the ancient Greek she wouldn’t have been allowed to learn in Puritan society, named the new kingdom Eurus, meaning east wind. She pronounced it “air-us.” “But the winds here blow from the west,” Haakon had asked his father once—before Dad was King James. That was when it was okay to ask questions. When curiosity wasn’t an imposition. “That’s right, Haakon,” his father had replied, straw between his teeth. They’d gone on a walk together. The sun was setting on an easy day. His dad had pointed toward the eastern horizon. “The wind here does primarily blow from the west, but our founders blew in from the east. That day, the wind changed directions.” Haakon frowned away the memory of days never to return, and refocused on the trees. He walked as soundlessly as he could in his camo fleece jacket and vintage Levi’s, his rifle nestled in the crook of his left arm, a round in the chamber. He was on the left edge of the group, three rows behind his father. Evenly spaced gaps between them, the men were like migrating geese, locked in formation. Geese hunting deer. “Were you drinking last night?” Haakon’s father had demanded on the way to the meeting point that morning. “Is that why you’re so tired?” “I’m tired because it’s so early that the birds aren’t even awake yet.” “Good. Because you know what the consequences will be if you start drinking again.” They’d shared the backseat of the armored SUV; Haakon had done his best to preoccupy himself with his cell phone. “Yes, sir, I know.” “You need to turn that thing off before we arrive. And when’s your next haircut? You look slovenly.” Will you just get off my back? Haakon had thought at the top of his lungs. What he’d said, though, was simply, “Yes, sir.” There, in the forest, Haakon toyed with the idea of raising his gun and shooting King James square in the back of the head. Right there under his hat, just above the rise of his custom down hunting vest. He could do it. Even with the others present, he knew there’d be no trial, no trip to Corby. But offing his father wouldn’t solve anything. In fact, it would make life a lot worse. Because with his father gone, Haakon would be in charge. Haakon would become the King of Eurus. The thought made him want to puke.

I wanted the girl back who loved horror movies and junk food and hot pink and koala bears and that boy band that made me gag and laughed at my dumb jokes. And who was my best friend who loved me. Selfish, maybe. Necessary, I thought so. I drove into the glowing horizon until we reached our destination with its signature arching sign and the slowly spinning Ferris wheel, and she sat up with a kid-like grin. “You’re kidding!” “Nope.” I hopped out and rounded to open her door. “My lady.” I helped her out then whisked her against me and pressed my lips to hers, swallowing her surprised squeak. It only took her a moment to melt against me, her arms circling my neck, her fingers threading through my hair. I tilted my head, deepening the kiss, tasting her unique sweetness, sliding my tongue along hers. She pressed against me, her little moans rippling down my flesh, riding my nerve endings like electrical shocks. I loved this. I loved her. Call me a sap, but I couldn’t help myself.
