Title: Steel
Series: The Beat of the Pulse #5
Author: Amity Cross
Genre: Fighter Romance Stand Alone
Release Date: March 23, 2016
All Josh “Steel” Caplin ever wanted was a little bit of glory…until he was left for dead on the street outside a hospital ER.
The last thing he remembers is being beaten to a pulp at The Underground, the illegal cage fighting ring that’s bad news, but the only place he feels he belongs.
When he finally wakes up, he stares right into the eyes of an angel and for the first time wonders if there’s something more out there for a guy from the wrong side of the tracks.
When Dr. Holly Walsh finds an unconscious man on the street, she stakes her claim over her patient for better or worse. When he finally opens his eyes, she isn’t prepared for how deep that claim is about to run.
They both have pasts they’d rather forget, but together they’re stronger…if only they’re strong enough to fight for each other.
Can a bad boy fighter and a big time surgeon really make things work?
Or when their two words collide, will it be sirens…or sparks?
STEEL is the fifth full-length novel in the bestselling Beat/Pulse series from Amity Cross.
Time to fight for the broken hearted…
"Don't you move, boy."
Those words have been his constant companion in life, dictating his childhood and haunting his dreams as an adult. Josh "Steel" Caplin is fighter born of necessity as he is all alone in the world. Channeling all his apathy into honing his body into the perfect fighting machine he is the ultimate loner. Until one night in the Underground changes everything.
Dumped in the car park of the hospital Holly can't believe someone would just leave him like that. Beaten to a pulp with broken bones and spinal damage she is intrigued by the rough round the edges grumpy enigma that refuses to open up. He ignites a need within her, one that she last ran from...
Holly has been burned in the past and her wounds are still raw. Josh is drowning in a sea of negative emotions, hiding his brutal past and present from her knowing that they are worlds apart. He is an underground fighter with no prospects, future or ambition. She is a successful highly skilled surgeon. Opposites attracted but can he ever measure up? The role reversal in this story is refreshing and Holly certainly doesn't need a man to provide for her, it's great the Josh doesn't feel emasculated by her success he just wrestles with his emotions as he is ashamed at his own tragic past. Two fractured souls are united and find solace in one another in the fifth book in this series. It's a change of pace with a little less action in the ring and only a little drama aside from the couple drama this one is more emotional. Mini cameo appearances from some of my favourites are always a welcome bonus! I think this highlights the authors talent for a great paced story line and a romance with the added dimension of self doubts and how self destructive negative emotions are. I hope we see more of Josh and Holly in future books in this series.
A four and a half star man of steel read.

Amity Cross isn’t her real name. That’s no secret. She is the author of wicked stories about rock stars looking for redemption, gritty romances featuring MMA fighters and dark tales of forbidden romance. She loves to write about screwed up relationships and kick ass female leads that don’t take s**t lying down. Amity lives in a leafy country town near Melbourne, Australia and can be found chained to her desk, held at ransom by her characters. Don’t send help. She likes it.
