A wound to the heart, a hole so deep.
Can it be fixed?
Or simply replaced?
People lie. Those closest to me, tell the most lies.
Do they not know who I am? What I’m capable of?
Sometimes I wonder if they do. Because when I unravel their lies, they will be delivered to the hell I once visited. And it won’t be pleasant.

it was amazing
The highly anticipated follow up from Black and it does not disappoint. If I was clever and savvy my review would commence with a song; Amy Winehouse Back to Black, playing full blast as we learn how Liam has devolved back into Black. Five years of being lost in the present with no memories and surrounded by people he holds in contempt. Five years of finding joy only in the moments of utter black. The voice, the blue of her eyes haunting his dreams and making him aware there was something more before he become this man makes him believe there is more to know . Who was he before, and why have they lied...he needs to go back...back to Black.

Red, the perfect compliment to Black. Seeing a ghost from five years ago she starts to live not just survive as the other part of her broken soul is returned to her. But the time apart has weathered them and their jagged edges are not so perfect a fit as they once were. She has other priorities and needs to ensure Black can be the man not only she needs but who they all can rely on. Can they find their way back to another, is she still the light to his darkness?

After the ending of Black, Red picks up five years after he is thought dead. With no memory but an insane talent for dealing death Liam Black has been consumed once again by his darkness. Rose has grown stronger, surviving the loss of the man that saved her, healed her and saw her. Growing close to Jake she is a beacon that keeps their family together. Red is her story just as much as it is Black's. She evolves and embraces the pain of loss, of discovery and the truth and becomes the perfect match for Liam. He struggles when his reality comes crashing down in a web of lies, deceit and manipulation, his inner demons not satisfied until he has fed on the screams of the guilty. Red is an edgy, walk on the dark side read. That embraces the cold comfort of switching off humanity to deal with the evils of the basest of human motivations; greed, jealously and power. I can not fault this story, I could not put it down. TL Smith has crafted another mind mashing romance that flourishes in the dark, the characters belong in the shadows and thrive. It's intriguing and has lot twists that you just won't see coming but all my questions from book one have been answered! The ending left me hungry for more and was perfect, I think Black and Red are well suited.

A five star Back to Black read.
