A song begins, and it only takes a few strokes of her guitar before I realize what she’s playing—my favorite song since I was a child. I let out a light chuckle that is muffled against the fabric of his shirt. “Our past defines us, Noah. Everyone says it shouldn’t,” I say somberly, “but it does, and I’m running on empty here…”
