Merciless Ride
Mercy is no friend of mine. Karma, she has yet to show kindness to me. The hits just keep on coming for Tessie Marie Harlow. She has never had an easy life. Her mom disabled, her dad long gone, and a single mom raising a rambunctious little boy, that’s Tessie’s world. Her childhood aspirations to be a nurse long since disappeared after a college spring fling both blessed and cursed her with a baby boy. Dropping out of school, she returns to her hometown and begins to settle in. Getting the only job she could as a bartender she spends her days caring for her son and nights serving the Hellions Motorcycle Club and their affiliates. Tired of waiting for Rex to grow up she’s faced with the bane existence of her life until one night changes everything. In the darkest hour of her merciless ride through life, she’s saved by a quiet, laid back Hellion. Andy ‘Shooter’ Jenkins has always been around. Too wrapped in Rex she’s never really noticed him before. He has never been loud or known to have the girls hanging all over him. He is a mystery. A chance encounter brings him to her rescue not once but twice. The Desert Ghosts Motorcycle Club are in town and bring their own brand of chaos right to Tessie’s door. Forced into her day to day life, Shooter is doing everything he can to shelter and protect her as lines are crossed and a war between two clubs begins. Secrets revealed putting two brothers in the Hellions Motorcycle Club at a serious crossroads in their lives. This is not a ride for pleasure. This is not a ride for safety. This is not a ride for love. This is a ride for survival. Mercy has never once shined her grace down for these two, but in the midst of the danger and lies can they learn to rely on one another and ride it out together? This book contains strong language, strong sexual situations, violence and is not suitable for readers under the age of 18. Please do not buy if any of this offends you. This is a work of fiction and is not meant to be a true or exact depiction of a motorcycle club but rather a book meant to entertain.

Shooter “Shooter, again, I can’t take your car.” “Look, your car, we gotta order parts, I told you that already. Those take a few days to get in. I can’t leave you with no way to get to Axel, your mom, and to work.” “I’ll rent a car,” she replies firmly. “Tessie, don’t be stubborn. We don’t even know what your car will cost to repair. Take the Challenger.” “Why are you so willing to help me?” Tessie asks me. “Call me selfish. If you don’t have a car, you can’t get to work, and then who would serve me a beer?” I ask in mock innocence. “Corinne will happily serve you, Shooter.” “Ha. Got jokes do ya? Corinne will happily serve up more than just drinks. Tessie, I’m just tryin’ to be a friend here.” “I would hardly call us friends.” Her face set in stone, not giving anything away. She’s tough, but there is a sadness deep in those brown eyes that pulls at me. “We could be,” I state watching for her to give me some sort of clue or opening. Yet, she gives away nothing. “Take the car, Tessie.” “I don’t need any new friends, Shooter. Keep your car. Thanks for stopping by. I’ll get my car sorted. I’m no trouble of yours.” “Come on, Tessie. Look, I get it, you haven’t had it easy. Neither have I, but I have an opportunity to help you and I want to take it. No strings, no favors, no debts, no markers, just me paying it forward so to speak.” When she doesn’t reply or change her stance, I throw out the big guns so to speak. “Okay, I’ll call Rex and have him arrange for your transportation.” I begin to step backwards, making my exit. “Wait! You wouldn’t really involve Rex would you?” “If you don’t take the car, yes, I will. Tessie, you’re part of the Hellions family in a way. None of us want to see you struggle. Take the car.” “You won’t call Rex if I take the car?” She questions as I watch the determination flash in her face. For whatever reason she does not want to rely on my brother. “If you take the car and agree to have dinner with me,” I add totally knowing I’m pushing my luck here. “Shooter!” She cries out in frustration, losing some of her firm resolve to keep me shut out. “What? I want us to be friends, that’s all. Seriously, I’m a man with far too much bad history to bring a woman along for my ride. I want to get to know you as a friend. I get the feeling you could use a friend right now and just that.” “I’ll take the car, but only until my car is fixed. Things are complicated for me. I can’t accept your dinner invitation. To be honest, it’s not in your best interest to be my friend.” My buddy, Nathan ‘Boomer’ Vaughn pulls into Tessie’s driveway. Handing her the keys to the Challenger, I smile. “Baby, I’ve never been one to do anything that’s in my best interest. We’ll have dinner one night, Tessie. Mark my words.” At that final statement, I walk away.

She currently resides in Southern Louisiana with her husband and two children but her heart is always Carolina day dreaming. When she is not spending her days writing you can find her playing with her kids, attending car shows, going on motorcycle rides on the back of her husband’s Harley, snuggling down with her new favorite book or watching any movie that Vin Diesel might happen to be in. She hates being serious and is still a big kid at heart. She is a small town country girl enjoying life and, Chelsea hopes that her readers remember not to take life too seriously and to embrace your inner five year old, because five year olds know how to enjoy the simple things in life and how to always have fun.

BOOK SUMMARY:

Have you ever thought of packing up everything you own and moving halfway across the country? I’m talking about leaving your entire life behind—friends, family, school—with no turning back. No? Me either, but that was before a week of spring break changed my life forever. Before I did something I never thought I’d do at twenty-two. Before I fell in love with Grey. Sometimes happily ever after isn’t always what you think it will be.

Happy CoupleCHAPTER ONE

GREY Room twenty-four. I looked at it one last time. The day I moved in here wasn’t a happy day. Pops had died, left me the Palm Palace, and I didn’t have anywhere else on the island to stay. Somehow it became home. A small, one room spot by the ocean had become home. There wasn’t much to pack: work clothes, a few tools, my boots. I had already hauled most of it next door, but there were still a few boxes in storage. I would try to get those before Eden arrived. I looked at my phone. She should be here in four or five hours. I shook my head. I hated the idea that she was on the road by herself. She was stubborn. I knew that the first minute I laid eyes on her, but this was crazier than hell. Driving all the way from Chapel Hill to Padre was damn near reckless, but I couldn’t talk her out of it. She said it had something to do with proving that she was moving for the right reasons. If it meant that much to her I knew better than to stand in her way. I pulled the door behind me and turned the heavy brass key in the lock to secure the room. Maybe one day I’d be able to afford those fancy keyless entries, but that was far off. I was lucky the Palm was still open. It had been a rough year trying to keep it afloat, but Eden breezed in here and showed me what was possible. She had all kinds of creative ideas about marketing, advertising, and services we could add. It was one of the things I loved about her—she saw past the peeling paint and the rusty doorknobs. She saw the Palm the same way I did and she loved it. She loved every last pink and blue tile, the way the boardwalk creaked when you walked on it, and how we probably had the only pool on the island without a diving board. That girl was something else. I didn’t take it lightly that we were moving in together. Who could? Last time I tried this Laura and I barely left on speaking terms. But that was different. That was Laura and her obsession with med school. This was Eden and everything about her made me realize it was the right decision. Sure I was nervous, but I’d never tell her that. I didn’t want things with us to end up like they did the last time I gave this a shot. I was going to make sure it wouldn’t. That’s why I had to surprise her with the beach cottage. I couldn’t let her move all the way here and start off in room twenty-four. We’d probably get on each other’s nerves faster than the tide changed on the beach, but besides that I wanted her to know I took this seriously. The blue house next door meant something. It wasn’t a cramped shoebox where we’d have to split a closet and a dresser combo. It was a place that could be ours, a place we could work on together, and a place where we could figure out the future. I shoved the key in my pocket. I had to get it back to the office. My phone rang. “Hey, Marin. What’s up?” “I just talked to Eden. She’s in Louisiana.” “You didn’t ruin the surprise did you?” I had trusted everyone on the island with the beach house secret, but deep down knew someone would let it slip. Things had a way of getting out around here. Marin laughed. “No, she has no idea. She thinks you are bunking up in that cute little room of yours at the Palm.” “Thanks, girl. Did she sound ok? I’m trying not to bug her.” What I really wanted to do was call her every hour and find out where she was, but that would contradict her plan. I managed to respect it since she got on the road. “She sounded like a girl who can’t wait to see you. I’ll let you know when she get’s to the bridge, ok?” “Alright. Thanks. I appreciate you checking up on her for me. I don’t want her to think I don’t think she can handle it.” I opened the door to the stuffy office. “She can handle it. Don’t worry about her, Grey. She’ll be here tonight. Call you later.” “Thanks.” Marin hung up and I tossed my phone on the cart. I had a few rooms to check before I made my way to the cottage to get things set up. Eden would be here tonight. This would be her office. I was handing over the books, the reservations, and all of the marketing to her. It was probably a bigger step than sharing a bathroom, but I knew I didn’t trust anyone else with Pop’s legacy like I trusted Eden. As I shoved the cart out of the back door, I heard the wind kick up on the beach. Eden and I were moving in together. I knew after tonight my life would never be the same, and there was no turning back. Good thing I didn’t want to.

Excerpt One

Jackson rolled over, pulling me on top of him. He kissed the top of my head and held me against him for a minute before we got dressed. After using the bathroom, I cuddled back into Jackson’s arms.
“Why did you say ‘one more day?'” I asked, tracing my fingers over the contours of his bare shoulders.
   “I was hoping you’d forget.”
   “Not a chance.”
Jackson took a breath. “Nate and Zane are gone. This is as good a time as any for you to escape.”
I pushed myself up so I could look him in the eyes. “And you too, right?”
Jackson frowned. “I don’t know the codes right now. You’ll have to go through a window.”
“So?” I asked, feeling panic rising. “You can come with me.” I shook my head. “Windows are quiet anyway. By the time I get out and the alarm goes off, we can be long gone.”
“As soon as I unlock a window on the first floor, the alarm will go off. The only windows I have access to up here are straight drops. You could fall and hurt yourself, and then you wouldn't be able to run. And you’re forgetting that the ankle bracelet has a GPS tracker. Lou can go after you and find you. I have to distract him.”
“Jackson, no. Please!” My eyes filled with tears, and my palms began to sweat. I desperately shook my head. “No. I can’t leave you. I won’t leave you.”
   “You can send help.”
“We both know that’s a load of shit,” I said. I blinked back tears. “You’ll be dead by then.”
“Adeline,” he whispered and reached up to caress my face. “That’s why I brought you up here. I wanted one more time with you. You’ve given me so much, more than I deserve. Now it’s my turn to give you a chance. You can have your life back, start over. You don’t need me.”
“I don’t want to start over without you.” My voice quivered as tears slid down my face. “I need you. I need your arms around me, holding me, keeping me together. I need your lips to press against mine, to hear your heart beating, to feel the heat of your skin. I need you.”
“You’ll find somebody else, someone who can give you a better life than I could.”
“Stop it!” I cried. “I don’t want anyone else. I want you! I love you, Jackson. No one else.”
“And I love you, Adeline. Enough to sacrifice myself for you. Please, Addie. Let me do this for you. Take this chance. My death will set you free.”
I pushed his hand away. “No. Do not tell me goodbye. It didn’t work last time, and it won’t work now. There has to be another way. There has to be. I won’t let you leave me.”

EXCERPT
Excerpt from Miss Guided by Alexia Adams:
The taxi arrived within minutes. With a pat on his brother’s back, he let him go. After a final wave to Liam, Marcus turned around to see Crescentia leaning against the van, staring at him.
“You’re very close.” The rest of the group was wandering the market stalls, so it was only the two of them left.
“He’s the most important thing in my life,” Marcus said. “I’d do anything for my little brother.”
“Well, seems to me he’s pretty self-sufficient.”
“Self-sufficient and happy are two different things.”
She pushed away from the van. “Don’t you want to do any shopping?”
“Not alone. Will you show me the best things to buy?”
A wicked smile creased her lips. “Of course.”
Twenty minutes later Marcus couldn’t contain the laughter. He let out a whoop that had everyone in his vicinity staring at him.
“Shush, we’ll be stampeded in the rush to get one,” Crescentia said, although her eyes danced with laughter as well.
“What the hell am I going to do with a statue of the Pitons made out of volcanic ash? They look like they were cast in the bra Madonna wore in the early 90s.” He held it against his chest and gyrated provocatively, much to the disgust of the elderly woman examining the shell jewelry at the next stall.
Crescentia had her hand over her mouth, trying to hold back her laughter. “I don’t remember that. I was just a small child.”
“Good, then you haven’t been scarred for life. On the other hand, I think this will make an excellent present for my mother.” He handed over the requested amount to the stallholder without bargaining. “You have to carry it for me though. My hands are full with my other purchases.” He’d bought something from nearly every stall, not because he wanted the items, but because it made her smile when he proclaimed each ludicrous gift the perfect item for one of his relatives.
“From the way you talked with Liam, I thought you two were orphans,” she said as she carefully placed his pointy Pitons in the back of the van. “Are you actually brothers? You have different last names?”
“Same mother, different fathers. Liam has our mother’s maiden name. I have a father and a mother and step-mother and two half-siblings. But Liam’s the only one I really consider family.”
She stared at him for a moment then turned away. “So which of these presents is for him, then?”
You are.
Except the conviction with which he said it in his head was refuted by a burning sensation in his stomach. Crescentia was wonderful. She was warm and witty, smart and feisty. She was fiercely loyal to her aunt and uncle, and spoke about them with love. Yet there was an independence that was at odds with a hint of vulnerability he’d sensed in her. She was a woman who wanted to stand on her own but probably wouldn’t mind if a strong arm was there to hold on to from time to time. It would serve her well if she got together with Liam, as he was often called away at a moment’s notice.
There were two problems with his plan. The first was finding a time to get Crescentia and Liam together. The second would be extricating himself from the scene. The more time he spent with her, the more he wanted to spend. She was an intriguing woman, and as a mystery writer he loved a good puzzle. He had an intuition that to learn about this woman would take more than the lifetime he had left. And that desire had nothing on the raging lust that hammered through his body every time he looked at her. He wanted her for himself, and this was one area where he couldn’t lay the groundwork for his brother.
Falling for the prospective sister-in-law was definitely not part of the plot.
