Kelsey O'Brien is the definition of a free spirit. She goes where she wants, when she wants, and takes to bed who she wants. And when she arrives back at Grover University after eight months on an African animal preserve, it’s her best friend, who recently sprouted abs and a panty-dropping beard, that has caught her eye. As their friendship turns physical, Kelsey begins to form feelings she swore she'd never have for anyone. But when the past she's not ready to face finds her, she must make a decision whether to stop running, or confront the truth.

The first time Clint Bellows laid eyes on Kelsey, he fell hard. Too bad she looked right through him. A year and countless hours in the gym later, she's back and hardly recognizes him and his new body. After a drunken encounter takes them over the line of friendship, Clint agrees to Kelsey's proposal of a benefits-added relationship. Only he's playing for keeps, and is willing to round all of the bases trying to score the self-proclaimed gypsy.

She's running from her demons. He's committed to winning her over. Can he catch her in time, or will she be out of his grasp before he can blink?

When we got inside, the blaring hip hop music was only coming from one corner of the house. Kelsey's corner.

I waved the guys off, signaling that I would take care of the problem. As I got closer, I could make out the lyrics, "Drunk in loveee. We be all night! Loveee. Loveee. We be all night!"

Chuckling to myself on her choice of song, I knocked on the door. Waited a few seconds, nothing. This time I banged my entire fist in an effort to rattle the wood on its hinges. Still nothing.

"Roo..." I opened her door, letting myself in, and stopped dead at the sight in front of me. Kelsey was in the middle of the room, her hair piled on the top of her head like some fiery tornado, a glass filled to the brim with red wine in her hand. And she was dancing like a mad woman.

She donned a white tank top that exposed the sides of her breasts and entirely-too-large grey sweatpants that pooled over her feet, making her look like a dwarf. She was utterly adorable and fucking mouthwateringly sexy.

At the creek of the door she turned, her naturally red lips splitting in a megawatt smile.

“Hi!”

I could tell from her dancing and the slight blush of her cheeks that she was tipsy. It made her even cuter.

“Hi yourself. What’re you doing there?” I couldn’t help her infectious smile from spreading across my face too.

She shook her hips wildly as the song changed to something faster. Pitbull maybe. But I was never good with music. “I had a long, hard day. Kickass, but fucking hard! So I’m dancing.”

Kelsey makes this more evident by raising the wine glass to her lips, taking a huge swig, and then raising it above her head and twirling in circles.

I drop my baseball bag on her floor and toe my sneakers off. Then I join her in the middle of the floor, and begin to move.

She gives a happy shout and moves closer to me, joining her free hand with mine and swinging both of our arms.

“I had my fingers up a zebra’s ass today. Well technically, it was a whole fist!” She announces this like it's the most normal thing in the world while I pull quickly out of her grasp. Kelsey giggles at my repulsion.

“Oh my god, bro! Don’t worry I had gloves on. But I did have to juggle her placenta in there...”

“Kels, stop. I am going to throw up.”

She did that sexy little giggle again and raised the glass to her lips. As she took it away and swallowed, she then raised it to mine. I let her pour some into my mouth, watching her cinnamon eyes over the brim. I knew the instant desire sparked in them, and I could feel myself harden in the mesh shorts I wore.

Reaching up, I held the delicate stem in my fingers and pried it out of her hand. Setting it down on the desk, I began to stalk toward her like she was the meal and I was ravenous.

I was broken before I met Sebastian Pryor, but he decimated me. I swept the ashes of myself into a pile that I kept safe for thirteen years. Believe me it wasn’t pretty, oh but people thought we were perfect. I hate myself most days. I hate that I feel for him as much as I loathe who I’ve become with him. This story is hard to hear. You know what the worst part is? You’ll see part of you in me. You’ll hate that. You won’t tell anyone.
My story is about cracks. A description or telling of how cracks in a marriage, a life, a personality, a heart and a mind begin and continue for years without anyone knowing. You don’t always see what causes the fissure, but you feel it. Can you remember who you were before all of this started, before your life became a jumble of deceit, longing and regret?
This book isn’t for anyone who needs a happily ever after.
This book isn’t for anyone who needs a fun time out from their life.
This book isn’t for anyone, but me.
This is my story. I won’t apologize for it.

My hand shook as I pulled the box into my lap, preparing myself for what may lay hidden within. I felt nervous and sick with anticipation. I suddenly wanted to flee, but where would I go? And how would I get there? Moving my leg took more concentration than I was willing to admit and I was still attached to what looked to be a hundred monitoring devices. The box stared back at me, waiting...wondering when I would crack its lip and finally divulge the secrets it had been keeping for so long. What if I didn't like what I found? What if I did? Taking a deep breath, I placed my hand on the lip and pulled, knowing there was only one way to find out. All neatly arranged inside, I found clothes, a wallet and a scattering of other personal belongings. I immediately went for the wallet, knowing it would hold the most information. Everything else forgotten, my fingers traced the smooth edges of the soft leather as I bent it open. There staring back at me was a picture of my own face. Because of the mirror across the room near the sink, I'd managed to catch a glimpse of my reflection a time or two since awaking here hours earlier. The man looking up at me on the California driver’s license photo was a stark contrast to the person I was today. Cold empty green eyes looked through me, as if the world and everything in it were beneath him. With a crisp white shirt and flawless green tie and jacket, there was no smile permeating through the lens--not even a hint of emotion was showing. My now long, unkempt hair had been trimmed short and neat, matching the impeccable persona that could be seen even through the tiny picture. My attention turned towards the address. 1023 Sea Cliff Lane, San Francisco. I looked out the window, trying to see if anything beyond its paned glass brought back any hints or memories of a life I once led. San Francisco. Even though the driver’s license confirmed what the nurse had already told me, I still felt no connection with the city below. Nothing called out to me, nothing held my attention. Was there anyone down there that would remember my name? I dug further through the wallet, finding a couple hundred dollars in cash, as well as several credit cards and a few membership cards to places I'd never heard of, but apparently belonged to. Or had belonged to. What happened to your life when you went into a coma? Did you disappear? Cease to exist or did life carry on? I looked at the address on my driver’s license and wondered if I still had a home...a bank account? I wasn't dead, but who had been paying my bills for the last two? Did I have money to pay the bills? Fuck. Suddenly, all I wanted was to slip back into that coma and never wake up again. And then I saw her. It was just a glimpse at first, the edge of a picture sticking out from inside the wallet--a wisp of hair that had me pulling at it to see it properly. With the golden gate bridge as our backdrop, a much younger, carefree version of myself held a girl in my arms and suddenly the world didn't feel so lonely anymore. Copper red hair tumbled down her back like a fiery mane. Her bright blue eyes sparkled as if she held untold secrets waiting to be revealed. In my own eyes, I didn't see harshness or the rigid void of nothing. I saw her, reflecting back in spades, the love radiating between us. I flipped the photo over, hoping for something...anything that would tell me who this girl was. There was nothing but a date and a name. August and Everly - 2005 Everly. She had a name. Now all I had to do was find her.

In Seaside, North Carolina, there are two kinds of people: Marines, and kids of Marines. Then there’s Kat Chandler. That’s not going to be easy with hard-liner parents like Micah Peterson storming in, telling her how to do her job—and then kissing her with those gorgeous lips of his and turning her brain into mush.

As a Marine Sergeant and a single dad, Micah Peterson has just two priorities: doing his job better than anyone else, and getting the absolute best for his son, Ben. But when he meets Ben’s beautiful new principal, a different yearning shifts into focus. He wants her, sure, but he’s also moved by the connection Kat forges with her students. ~*~ Obsessed by Books copy given in exchange for an honest review ~*~

Book two in this series begins at the same point in tike as book one providing the sane time line but from Dane's perspective. This is a really unusual, not often explored method of following on un a series but oh boy does it work as we gain so much more insight into the characters and events. The books fit together like a jigsaw puzzle providing a clearer picture when together but can be read as stand alones as they have so much attention to detail.

Dane doesn't feel challenged, he feels like he is at a plateau in his life until quite by chance he crosses his path with Arianne and her son. Acting as a knight in shining black belt, he intervenes when her dangerous ed husband tracks her down to reclaim her. From that point on, Fate is a cheeky minx and ensures this pair keep on meeting one another. Ari has a few secrets and more scars from her past than most people could bare so she is reluctant to own herself up to a man who practices violence. In her experience it will cause her nothing but pain and misery. Dane finds his focus through meeting Ari and her son Isaac, he quickly recognises that she is it for him. He stays determined throughout their ups and downs, knowing that nothing worth having comes easy.

A sensitive well written story that captures the traits and mannerisms of Aspergers beautifully and highlights how these children should be greater as the precious gift they are. Isaac is blunt, truthful and at times the voice of sense as he sees things so clearly. A true shining star in this story. Ari battles herself as she no longer trusts her instincts, her past has taught her too many lessons. Can she be Brave?

A wonderfully emotive 5 star read.

Excerpt

The drive home was a killer. Although the restaurant we’d gone to was amazing, I didn’t really think it through. Mount Tamborine road was definitely a two hands on the wheel type of drive with its succession of hairpin bends and drop offs. There was no chance to have my hand on her leg or up her skirt.

“How are you doing over there? Sulking? Plotting my demise?”

“I can’t believe you left me like that!”

I chuckled, “Building anticipation, Miss.”

“I so want to reach over and grab you by the crotch just to see how you like to be tormented. This is not a road to be doing that.” She wriggled in her seat a little more suffering from frustration.

“Spread your legs, Miss.”

“What did you say?” She was playing coy because I’d left her hanging. Ari loved it when I started bossing her when it came to sex.

“You heard me! Push your hips forward and hike that skirt up. I want to look over and see your naked pussy. I want to know that’s what I’m going to have anyway I want it when we get home.”

I noted her sharp intake in of her breath, as she did as I asked.

The road evened out into the long straights on the flat. I could take a hand off the wheel now and be safe, although I had something naughtier in mind.

“Touch your pussy for me, Miss.”

“Dane!”

“Don’t Dane me. Do it!” I growled using my Sensei voice. She called it my Get it on voice. It was my Sensei voice but hey...whatever worked for her.

“I’ve never, in front of…” She was looking at me all concerned. The other day I’d demanded her hands on her tits. Today I wanted more.

“What’s the big deal? You let me do all kinds of stuff to you. I want to see you do it.”

I glanced across and she still looked unsure. “Give me your hand, Ari.”

She took my offered hand and I placed her hand directly on her mound. Then I let my fingers trail lower.

Oh wow, she was so wet. I teased her slowly with my fingers, letting them slide through her slick flesh. A couple of times her hips jolted forward and I knew I’d hit a particularly sensitive spot.

My eyes remained focused on the road, the driving was easy—all straight roads and gradual bends. Her other hand was gripped on the armrest of the door. Not in fear, but in a need to ground herself to something. Ari liked something solid to hang onto when she was into it. There was no way I could resist sliding a finger into her hot, wet channel.

“Oh, Dane.” Her voice caught and my dick flexed in my pants in response to the sound.

The hand she had on the door was now locked around my forearm. I eased my hand upwards and covered hers. Then I slowly moved it down over herself.

I spread my fingers lightly on top of hers. “Now show me what you like.”

“Why? I love everything you do!”

“Because I want to know what you do. Come on, Miss. You didn’t spend two years on your own without at least using your fingers occasionally. Or have you got a secret cache of toys you haven’t told me about?”

She tensed briefly, then relaxed as I guided her fingers lightly.

“This really turns you on?”

“Yep! Like you wouldn’t believe. Anything that involves you and sex is an instant turn on for me.”

“And I thought you were such a gentleman!” she huffed out in shaky breaths.

“I am.” I pushed her finger against her clit and rolled it in circles the way I knew she liked. “I just like to get a little wild and demanding when it comes to sex. You love it, don’t deny it. You’ve got even wetter since we’ve been talking if that’s even possible. I can’t wait to get home and lick all that sweetness from you.”

Ari let out a few long pants and her body had gone rigid. She was almost there and I couldn’t resist moving my hand back to the wheel. It was up to her whether she came now or later. I was kind of hoping she’d finish herself off; it would be another little hurdle we jumped together.

“Dane!” she shrieked.

“Finish it, Ari. Come for me. Let me see you, hear you,” I demanded of her.

Her fingers wriggled in her pussy and she started to groan and pant all at once.

“Oh God Dane, I can’t believe you made me do it,” she cried as the orgasm racked through her. I couldn’t help the chuckle that slipped out. From the corner of my eye, I watched the spasm fire through her body and her face contort in passion.

“I just encouraged you, Ari. Miss, that was hot! My dick is so hard right now.”

“I should make you return the favour,” she grunted.

“Anytime you want. Just not tonight and not when I get home from Vegas. They are definitely my cock in your pussy kind of days.” I chuckled, and pulled her fingers from her pussy and sucked them into my mouth.

“You’re impossible!”

I loved pushing her and she loved me, too, for doing it.

AboutTheAuthor
Bestselling romance author Angel Payne has been reading and writing her entire life, though her love for romances began in junior high, when writing with friends on “swap stories” they’d trade between classes. Needless to say, those stories involved lots of angst, groping, drama, and French kissing.
She began getting a paycheck for her writing in her twenties, writing record reviews for a Beverly Hills-based dance music magazine. Some years, various entertainment industry gigs, and a number of years in the hospitality industry later, Angel returned to the thing she loves the most: creating character-based romantic fiction. Along the way, she also graduated with two degrees from Chapman University in Southern California, taking departmental honors for English, before writing five historical romances for Kensington and Bantam/Doubleday/Dell.
Angel found a true home in writing contemporary-based romances that feature high heat and high concepts, focusing on memorable alpha men and the women who tame them. She has numerous book series to her credit, including the Kinky Truth series, the Secrets of Stone series (with Victoria Blue), and the popular W.I.L.D. Boys of Special Forces series, as well as several stand-alone titles. TheCimarron series and the Once Upon a Sin series both launch in 2015.
Angel still lives in Southern California, where she is married to her soul mate and lives on a street that looks like Brigadoon, with their awesome daughter and Lady Claire, the dog with impeccable manners. When not writing, she enjoys reading, pop culture, alt rock, cute shoes, and hanging at the beach with family and friends.
