REVIEW: Roman by Kimber S. Dawn @KimberSDawn

Roman is a man of little words and lesser morals. He's a man who accepted his demons long before the average person even realized they had any. Roman has never felt emotions like guilt, shame, or remorse. Roman has also never felt love, sympathy, or compassion

Jaded for reasons unknown with more money at his disposal than he knows what to do with, Roman's walk to the dark side began long before his first kill. He will taunt you, he will make you hope and watch in amusement as you fall for him, believing you're the one who can save his soul. Believing you're the one who can get through because the other twelve failed, you'll know to the marrow of your bones how lucky being number thirteen really is...

How do I know all of this? Because, my name is Heather Mackenzie and I've been number thirteen for a lot longer than I ever intended to be.

***Obsessed by books arc copy given in exchange for an honest review***
"Do not continue reading if you have illusions of my redemption or if you are entertaining the idea you will be the one to save me...
I am advising you to turn away from me know, but we both know you won't, and this pleases me beyond words."
This is Roman's warning to the reader and it should be heeded. This is not a love story. There is no happy ever after ending. Not for the believers of fairies or unicorns...are you afraid of the things that go bump in the night? Then this is not the book for you...this is a dark twisted read which will leave you thinking WTF!?!
Amazingly well written the prologue begins from Roman's point of view where he calmly introduces himself and explains his evolution into a perfect serial killer of women. He details the rape and murder of his prom date, the ongoing abusive relationship that ended with his girlfriend's death. He makes no excuses and doesn't expect anyone to understand. He is what he is a beautiful monster that cages the devil within the mask of an angel.
Heather aka Mac is tough in mind and spirit. An undercover police officer  assigned to reveal the truth behind the murder of 12 women. She is captivated by Roman and loses her life as she knows it to him.  This is her story of being lucky number thirteen.
"Roman will break me. He will let me down. He sill make me hurt. Roman will make me bleed, over and over."
Heather is wise. She knows he is the devil and although she conforms and becomes god perfect stepford wife she retains herself. She hides 'Mac' away and when she peeps out Roman punishes her brutally. She does not snap or mentally shrivel. She endures.
This is a twisted love story  as along the way they do cultivate feelings toward one another. Without spoilers I can't really say anymore about the plot...suffice to say there are twists and turns that shock!
I gave this a four star rating as there are little things that threw me. A flashback to their very first meeting was mentioned early on but then never again commented on apart from her pet name for him. The third pov was revealed but nothing came of that particular plot twist. Heather was introduced as a one of the boys, handle herself type but never once defended herself or tried to escape. Yet she clearly was not broken by him..so Why!?!? Guess I was a little disappointed in her. She took everything he gave her and survived, refused to be broken...was brave yet still was a victim. As many answers as the book gave it left many left unanswered.  I also wish we had a little more in depth time spent on his special torture room..again alluded to but never again mentioned. So all in all some great ideas but I wanted more! As this is a first in the series I can't wait to read the next one and get my wish! This was a fantastically written mind reader of a dark read.

*Warning:  I write between a personal and analytic stand point with my reviews. One minute I am talking to you like I’m your friend and then the next I sound all smart and stuff.  Enjoy!
May I just say WOWZA! This tale was beautifully written. The scenes were descriptive and I was engaged in the storyline the entire time! And may I add that the cliffhanger left me screaming, “No! Please tell me that fucking didn’t just happen???!!!!” Yeah, the ending was that epic.
This story is a very dark read. When you read the summary on Amazon.com, you should really listen to the advisory and know your limits in regards to your reading preferences. If you like Hallmark type love tales, then this story is not for you.
This book is centered on Roman and Heather (aka Mac). Roman begins the tale by telling you his upbringing and his desire to kill. He warns you at the beginning that this story is not one where an angelic girl saves a demon from his desires but rather he describes how he has designed the world to fit his needs and wants.  Mac enters the story by telling you her objective and what she hopes to achieve as the detective trying to take down Roman Payne.  Each time she encounters Roman, she soon realizes her cat and mouse game will land her into a shit world of trouble. And eventually her actions lead her straight to Roman and into his deadly games.
I won’t give much away beyond this point. Kimber has done a wonderful job setting up this series. Based on the ARC (advised reader copy) I received, there was a sample of book two for Roman. So, hopefully we can see how Roman and Mac develop further in their interesting relationship. But for real, the ending will leave you screaming, “NO! Please tell me that fucking didn’t just happen?!”
The ending was abrupt but there appears to be a second book to further explain the end. For this, I give this book a 4.5 out of 5 due to the wonderful writing, fucking hot sex scenes, loving moments between the couple and there were a few grammatical errors in the ARC.

About this author
Who is Kimber? Shit, sometimes even I don't know, lmao. However if I had to type up an author bio (which, son of a bitch, I do) this is how it would read. BTW, caught a lot of shit for this author bio. Really don't give a fuck though, because I was asked to type up a bio. And if I can only say one thing for certain about myself, it's this: I'm real, I don't back down from what I believe, I say what I mean, and I mean what I say. I don't bite my tongue and I never try to hide the ugly parts of who I am... You either love me or hate me, but if you love me... I'll always be loyal, no fucking matter what ;)
I can be called a billon different things—daughter, wife, mother, labor unit nurse. I sell pussy on the side. *Coughs* That would be Persian kittens, thank you…you dirty-minded scoundrel. I'm a book blogger, book pimp, and a book whore. My two indulgences are my Jack’s in life…Jack Daniel’s and Blackjack. My biggest dream, the day I'll acknowledge that I've succeeded in life and can I die a happy woman, is the day I get to go two stark-naked hour-round sexual bouts with Jason Statham. *Sighs*
I was born and raised in Louisiana… and No, I do NOT live in a bayou, I actually see the beaches on the gulf coast more than I see a bayou, lol. I started writing poems and short stories very early in my life. You know, for the Michaels and Leos and Nicks in my life. I've been a book hoarder since I was eleven years old, but then a couple years ago something wonderful happened! The 50 Shades of Grey craze brought to life my inner smut whore and I commenced to read anything and everything smut affiliated. When reading wasn't enough anymore and I noticed that so many of the authors of my favorite indie authors and their books weren't getting the exposure their work deserved, I turned it into a mission, starting my own blog, buying their books and reading them one by one. I then wrote my reviews for my blog and didn't hold back in writing them (Hell yeah those motherfuckers a profanity laden). I've never done a single thing in my life halfway. I always go all in. After the success of my Blog, and the insistence of one of my bestest friends, my sister from another mister, Trina Taylor of Bad & Dirty Books, I was ready to finally take the plunge and see if I could write a book that was worth a damn. I'm a Southern girl to my core, a self-proclaimed smut whore, and I keep hearing that I’m an author, but honestly… I don’t believe the rumors, lol. I don’t feel like a kickass bitch spittin’ out lyrics, or stories, like a motherfuckin’ rockstar.
Tattooed across my ribs are the words I have always lived by: 'Aut viam inveniam aut faciam tibi.' Latin for: If I cannot find a way, I will make my own.
If you want to contact me, give me a shout out at 3am because my story just decimated your work day potential, or hell if you want to stalk me (I’ve met some of my BFF’s that way, don’t judge a stalker, they are awesome, fun, kickass bitches) follow me on these links:
